Huntley's out it seems, so i'm wondering if there's any other place out there to get a SC for my car. From what i could tell their basic kit has nothing but a blower, mounts, and a set of pretty chrome intake pipes. Now that they're gone, i figured it may be feasible to fab up a kit like it for cheaper using a used blower, some technical know-how, elbow grease, and a machine shop or two.
My engine runs smoother than butter due to my mechanic's golden hands and seemingly endless supply of porsche knowlege (he's ~35 and has had one porsche or another since 15). By smooth i mean i can put her in first, and gently (not necessarily slowly) ease off the clutch to get her going. There's also a compression change due to a slightly machined head (negligible though compared to forced induction).
After all that, i seem to have no alternatives short of a complete top to bottom rebuild for N/A power (there are limits to all alluminum engines i'm told though), or a forced induction set-up. I know that converting to a turbo is damn near impossible and definitely impractical. So i figure a low-boost blower would be perfect as it wouldn't mess with my torque curve while providing 30ft/lbs or so.
Which brings me back to my question: if someone were to attempt to fab their own SC kit what would they need? Is there anything required of the MAF sensor? the ECU? Also, would something like a blower from a corrato work? Or is it car-specific? What would you guesstimate the price range at?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide (as well as bearing with my fillabuster post).

For about the same price you could probably drop a 968 3 liter in there...

Paul's probably got a point but if you insist on going with a blower anyway the first thing you need to look at is any emmision requirements in your state. If you can fly by them then I would say you can probably fab most any blower (within physical size limitations of coarse) to your engine with enough work. I don't know what the limitations are of the stock injection system but most MAF type injections will tolerate a low boost system though you may need to add an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and an MSD ignition with a boost retard feature just to fine tune things.

I am actually cosidering doing the same to my 79 NA. I am in the midst of converting to EFI now and plan to use an Eaton M-90 blower with an intercooler. This is probably atleast a year or two in the future but I think it is realistic at this point. We'll see.

Why not just go with a good NOS system? Around $600 and you are set. Also only puts stress on the engine when you go full throttle... or where ever you set the system to turn on.

Use an m60, the m90 is too big for that engine.
Also EFI is a must. I found this the only way to map the running without det damage.

Cheers
