No gimmick, though I can't say I'm too happy about oil pressure on LH turns, after my issues. TBD, and I do plan on getting one of these. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Crank scrapers are oldschool hotrod stuff and yes they work very well! Wish I could have found one of these while I had my engine on the stand. Oil mist and slosh are one of the main reasons dry sump oil systems always show horsepower gains on a dyno and a crank scraper does basically the same (but not as well). I wouldn't want to intall one with the engine in the car as it takes quite a bit of trimming and fitting to get it right. I have done this on V8 engines with good success but only on the stand. Most HP gains will be in the higher RPM ranges of 6000 and up.

I would think that it shouldn't be absolutely a bear to swap it in with the engine in place; just remove the one engine mount, suppor the engine, drop the crossmember, drop the oil pan, and fit it up. Yes, there's some trimming and fitting, but it could easily be done with the engine in place, just turn it over with a wrench.
As for me, I'm building a new motor, so this will be easy to fit. Yes, I snagged that one, but I'm sure they'll make more if asked. Their website is:

To translate for my cousins on this side of the pond......baffled sumps. I have known these to be engine savers on a few rally cars.

hahaha.... maybe i should email the guy linking here and ask him for a discount for sending him the business....
i had the whole bottom end rebuilt in my 78 with the engine still in the car.. guy had no trouble at all..that was a great mechanic who has since dissapeared (substance abuser) shame too, he was very tallented until he fried his brain...anyhow, im seriously considering a complete "freshening" of my 931 , including the bottom end.. might be a good time to install one of these puppies...vaughan, please let us know when you recieve it , a quality control product report would be helpfull..... _________________ Eric

Count on a full report!
If it's looking good, and there's interest here, maybe we'll order up a batch from him! I could use another for the (81) turbo that'll get built up... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Oh, yeah, it's not exactly a baffled sump. The stock sump is baffled anyway, but this is an additional piece of metal that will serve somewhat as a baffle, keeping oil from going up the RH side of the block, I hope, on LH turns, and in part to virtually scrape oil off the crank (though it doesn't totally touch the crank, just is very close to it) during crank rotation.
It serves to some extend like knife-edging the crank. For this reason, in fact, that it's closely fitted to the crank, it is designed for a stock crank. If you were to run a knife-edged crank, you would need to make your own crank scraper. _________________ Vaughan Scott
