|
|
AHA! That’s why I get no acceleration floored!
The gas pedal is not hitting the metal stop in the cab. The carpet is holding it back a little but
my throttle cable barely pulls on the secondary port on my throttle body.
The long threaded adjustment and nut is nearly to the end closest to the throttle body. Is this fully adjusted out or in?
What’s is my next step? _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

Mine's near the end too mate, i get full throttle only when the pedal is pressed to the floor - so i'm guessing the cable is stretched to its max limit.. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

Hey! Here's a scarey thought, but don't be frightened... Maybe the cable can be tightened back up some? Disconnect the end from the throttle cam and turn the end of the cable to wind it up tighter. Know what I mean? Just might work - and if it breaks, then it was probably time for a new one anyway. Just don't overdo it - too much winding will probably cause the cable to bind. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Did that break easily or were you really wrenching on it? What broke - cable or end piece?
(I'm trying to make this look like a good thing. That it broke on your driveway instead of out on the road.) _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Don't worry Smoothie.
My cable is still intact.
I just want a new one that is not on its last leg.
It’s my only means off transportation so I did not take the chance of twisting it. It would have to twist up a good 1/2 inch.

I bought a cable on e-bay for my 87 for less than $10 including shipping. When I got it I found it to be brand new with the factory sticker still on it. I only bought it cause I figured it would be a killer someday so it is in the growing mass of spare parts.

Ok - good to hear you weren't put out of commission Augi.
I just had a look at mine and it's easy to spin the cable with just your fingers. I only gave it 50 or so turns, but I'm not sure if the end at the gas pedal swivels. My guess would be no, but if it does, that could be the cause of the cable stretching because it would gradually unwind over time. Anybody happen to know if that's a swiveling end piece on the cable at the pedal end? Logically, the twisting should tighten it. Could still experiment with it once you have a new cable on hand. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."
