The first link, to the Brembo applications, though they are aftermarket, they are stock replacement items. I actually have exactly these, the Brembo front rotors, on my racecar... causes must consternation from my competitors, since Brembos are normally believed to be upgraded brakes, which are not allowed in our class! Also, many people, when talking about modifying cars, often use the phrase "aftermarket" to imply an upgrade, which (in this case) these parts are not, simply replacement parts.
No, I don't think the second link is a good price. For one, that's no real substantial performance improvement - actually, I have worked on cars where simply swapping in a cross-drilled rotor actually degrades braking performance, due to the loss of friction surface. You would gain some benefit from a slotted rotor in the rain; other than that or a full-on upgrade, stay stock. _________________ Vaughan Scott

| So the Brembo rotors give a better brake than stock or no? Also should I replace them with the Brembo rotors if the rotors on the car are cruddy? |

Rotors should be replaced if they are too thin; there's a measurement in the Haynes manual, minimum allowed rotor thickness. Brembos are good; so are ATE, and other factory sources. However, these are no better than stock - they are simply stock replacements. _________________ Vaughan Scott

The 944/924 5 lug brakes are more than adequate to stop a 924. If you swap engines and start making some real power, like 200-300hp, then you'll likely experience brake fade on the track, and need to upgrade to bigger and better rotors.
Until you reach that point though, you'll just be wasting money you could be putting into other things, like the suspension, engine, etc... _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

The 924 isn't really a muscle car or "import tuner" for which you can buy multiple after-market enhancements to bolt on and increase power. You need to read the 2 magazine articles linked below called "Bolt on Bonanza" about how difficult it is to draw extra power out of the 924 engine. Then you should read the text below taken from the 924Board FAQ. Anything is possible with money, skills and time, but you may need to seriously consider if the 924 is the car for you.

From the 924Board FAQ:
A set of high compression pistons, a camshaft, head porting, and a header will probably cost upwards of $1200 if you do the work yourself. And on top of that you'll be lucky to get 160hp out of it. While 160hp in a 924 is reasonably quick, most people don't want to spend the value of their car in modifications and still get kicked around by Acura Integras. And sure, you can throw out of back seats and all the carpet and insulation and interior trim, but if it's not a racecar, you're really compromising the utility of the car. And maybe being a little ricey in the process. As I see it, the only reasonable thing to do if you're unhappy with the amount of power the 924 has is to sell it, and buy something faster. I wanted a faster car and didn't want to have to sell a kidney to make it fast enough for me, so I got the best of both worlds and got a 931 (924 Turbo). I really like the look of the 924 in modified form (newer rims, spoiler), love the handling, and am satisfied with the part prices. I didn't want to get a 944 (part prices ridiculously expensive, only 150hp and hard to upgrade) although I really like their look too. I didn't have much money to spend either. The Nissan 300zx Turbo and other 80's Japanese sports cars looked too old and felt too plasticky for me. The 931 was a good choice for me, good power output stock, 924 handling characteristics, better brakes, etc. They are rare cars also, which I like and they have great upgrade potential. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |
