|
|
I just noticed that Tweeks now sells a complete (domestically-sourced) carpet set for the 924/944, a good number of colour choices, and only $280USD! Finally!

I guess our cars are finally getting old enough to be considered for restoration parts.
Looks like it's got ALL the bits, including stuff like door pocket sides, center console sides, etc.
Anyone here got it. like it? _________________ Vaughan Scott

Then again, I look closer, and it seems that they're on a temporary shortage? Perhaps they're only made to order, not stocked. _________________ Vaughan Scott

If these are the same as the PartWerks kits, I would avoid!! I haven't heard of any decent carpet sets other than grabbing them from a parted newer model. I think the carpets all the way up through the 968 (coupe) will fit. There are some small changes with how the pieces all fit together, but as long as you get all of them I think you're fine.

I bought the set from Performance Products and it was a nightmare to install. To put it mildly: it doesn't fit. _________________ Dan Flanagan--2002 VW Jetta TDI, 83 Mercedes 300D,83 Mercedes Euro-240D |

I wanted to buy and install a new carpet set in my own car..main reason being was mine carpet is tan and i am going with a black and yellow interior. I looked at the tweeks carpet set...and visually it doesn't look right and judging from evryones experiences..I didn't want to roll the dice. My carpet set is in great shape overall...so I have been experimenting with dying the carpet.
First I bought a can of spray from an upholstery shop.....that was crap all it did was paint the tips of the caprept fibres and left the carpet cruncy..kinda like it was PAINTED..lol. Plus it would have taken about 20 cans to do all the carpets.
Next i tried a dye intended for leathers etc. that worked great when spray through my paint gun....problem here was it was a sample from a friend...whenI went to order what I would need to do the entire carpet...it was 39.00 cdn for 8 oz bottle! I would need like 10 of them.
My upholstry friend suggested just plain old run of the mill fabric dye..the kind you boil and add the fabric to. I went out and bought a bunch....I boiled i pack ata time in a quart of water...poured into my paint gun...and sprayed my carpets with a high pressure to drive it deep in the fibers..then went over it with a stiff bristol brush. I soaked the carpets with 5 quarts of the stuff and they are about 80% dyed...you can still see they are a bit light and a few fibres show the tan when flexed. I let these dry for a day in the sun and now I am ready to give them another soaking... I'll post the final results. _________________ 1976 924

I ruined a good set of tan carpets trying this. There is no dye that I've found that will change a tan carpet to black- despite what the people who sell the dye say. Carpet dyes are only meant to change the color a few shades at best. The spray stuff is just for touch-ups and won't soak in. Fabric dye is meant for natural fibers and will wear off the synthetic carpet very quickly (onto your hands/clothes/anything that rubs against it). The expensive dye lasts, but it will only give you a chocolate brown if you're trying to dye tan to black. It works fantastic if you need to bring the life back to an originally black carpet set.

On July 11/00 I ordered a complete set of preformed carpets from
http://www.autostyles.com
Price was $269.00 U.S. plus $20.00 shipping within the U.S. Unfortunately for me living in Canada the total cost was a little more. Ultimately I paid a total of $512.07 CAN. with all taxes, shipping, etc. etc. Money well spent as far as I am concerned. I was and am impressed with what I received for the money. Every piece fit as near to perfect as I could ask. The one piece I had trouble with was the large cabin piece. With the original set this piece is cut in two. From Autostyles it was 1 complete piece. If I had it to do over I would cut this piece myself in order to ease installation. Other than that I was very impressed with the attention to detail. Every piece that showed had vinyl edging sewed on, the cutouts were accurate and the preforming created creases in the right places.
I just briefly checked their website and could find no mention of Porsche under their import section. I don't remember if there was a listing back in '00. In any case, their part number for the set I bought was 422. The color, charcoal was 8970. I talked to a guy named Scott. Quite pleasant and very knowledgeable.
The installation instructions came from a place called Ohio Carpet so I would assume they are the actual manufacturer. I have no affiliation with these people and don't pretend to have an in depth knowledge of carpeting. All I can say for sure is I was and am a satisfied customer. _________________ Doodle
