There's a statistic floating around out there that says drivers of red cars speed more than drivers of other color cars. It's probably because personality types that like red happen to also like to put the pedal down more liberally. I don't think you get in the car and get red reflected into your eyes off the hood, then want to speed because of it -or if you get into a car and have blue reflected off the hood that makes you drive slower; and I don't think a person who would normally choose a blue car suddenly wants to speed when they get behind the wheel in a red car. I also don't think the police necessarily single out red cars more often for tickets. They've given me a couple tickets in my green car, but then again they happened late at night with no color reflecting off the hood into my eyes and with no other cars on the road, so even if they could see what color my car was, there were no red cars around to ticket instead. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. | IMO red is a girl's color. Cops like to stop girls. |

Most of the times I've gotten stopped under marginal conditions (not really doing anything worse than anyone else, like keeping up w/ traffic but getting popped for speeding, etc, as opposed to blatantly stupid moves) have been in red cars. Yes, I wholeheartedly believe that cops pay extra attention to red cars. I don't mind the colour at all, but I cannot stand to drive red cars now.
I bought a red 931, repainting it white. It was originally Dolomite Grey, but it's gonna be a racecar, need solid colors for that. The daily driver is, thankfully, the original Plat. Silver Metallic.
If you're at a moment where you can really choose ANY colour - I recommend a stealthy colour. Not very exciting, but safer. Think of the colour asphalt looks - dark blue, greys from light to dark, silver, etc. Personally I really think the Dolomite Grey is very sharp on our cars. Metallics are more expensive and harder to shoot, but do really look nice! Worth it, perhaps, if you're having it professionally shot; if not, if you're DIY'ing, I'd recommend a solid non-metallic colour. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Conversations with a Nassau County sargent the color less visible to pick out of a crowd of cars is gray. Bright colors stand out and therefore get picked when sighting through or over a speed gun. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

The color isn't called "Arrest-Me Red" for nothing.... Which most of my cars have been! The racecar, though, will be yellow.
However, Vaughn, I want my car to be as visible as possible, so some yahoo can't claim they never saw me before they tagged my car. I'll take my chances with the cops and do the strealth via technique. |

I wont drive a red car for that reason, I plan on painting my project car metallic black, although I have never painted before so it may take me a few tries, it doesnt really bother me _________________ 3 928s, |

Vince is correct, brightly colored cars are easier to track in the day time, when most tickets are issued.. it inverts at night however, where a white car is easier to track. another interesting tidbit comes from refractive dynamics.
laser speed detectors get a clearer signal from lighter colors..a white car is very easy to get a clear signal as it reflects better, where a black car actually absorbs most of the signal and returns much less of it (think stealth technology). this is why law enforcement are trained to shoot for headlights or front plates, as those are areas of the largest signal return..
now heres the fun part, i live in Florida now where there is no front tag, and since our 924 series has retractable headlights, low slung, narrow lines, and my car is black metallic (actually its more of a gray that porsche called black, but its the perfect colour), it is the most difficult car you can have to get an accurate reading on..its not impossible, but its certainly more difficult to track than most other cars out there, not much for them to aim for.. ive shot through "wolfpacks" on the highway where just about every car around me has been pulled over, and i just kept on going my merry way,.. and i think the above has allot to do with my escaping the "big ticket"... in fact, having owned a 924 series car of every variety since 94' or so, ive only gotten one ticket, and that was litterly a case of mistaken identity , as I was really doing the speed limit and a red hinda crx flew by me at night(i had a red 924s at the time)...then i was pulled over for 20+ over the limit, by an extremely angry trooper.... fortunatly, the judge actually believed me..and it was dismissed... ofcourse now that ive said this ill probably get nailed once i get my 931 on the road again..... _________________ Eric

Sweet! Yeah, I'm in Michigan, also no front plate, and my turbo is the colour of asphalt... invisible. Well, especially invisible on these roads, as I'm hiding between SUV's and pickups all the time... _________________ Vaughan Scott

| My main car right now is red and I have never been pulled over. Then again, I have only had it since November. |
