|
|
Only on the driver side only for some reason, the 225/50/16 in the rear is rubbing. These Potenza's have the rim protector lip that sits out from the rim, I imagine tires without this wouldn't rub.
So I can either have the spacers milled down 2-3mm (if there's enough space to bring the tire in closer to the inside part of the well) or I roll the rear fender lips.
Any fender rolling tips? These buggers are two-ply sheet metal in the rear and pretty thick. Although rolling them would give me plenty of room against rubbing. I tried just rolling a wooden bat along the top of the tire and it barely even budged the lip.
So what to do?

Eastwood makes a fender roller that is the kitten's pooper. It's #31158 and it's $250. BTW, Crosby,Stills and Nash are coming to the area in August, if you've never seen them it's a real blast! _________________ Dan Flanagan--2002 VW Jetta TDI, 83 Mercedes 300D,83 Mercedes Euro-240D |

In the rear I have 215 60 16s and Im really thinken on
cutting off the return lip that hits the tire just off along the top
for starters that might be enough for me
to get the rear lower. Where the gtrs left stock height
not the raised us bumper rule spec but stock height.

In my experience, I've folded the lip under for clearance. Tires have hit it in the past after impacts, but no damage due to the rounded lip. However, I had to use hammers and dollys to accomplish this. _________________ Vaughan Scott

I know that I can achieve the tire tuck with these
big tires cause ealrier today I put 4 bags of wal-mart
steer manure and 4 bags of wal-mart garden compost
in the back and drove home, it was looken sweet that low
still Ill cut the inner lip off to right where it rolls. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

I run 225/50R16 on a factory 6" rim under mine and have no rubbing issues, however to roll the flair what you can do is take a pair of channel lock plier and contact cement a piece of rubber on each surface so you dont damage any of the nice paint, and the grab and curl till it is at less than a 90deg angle and then take a piece of rubber put it on the outside with a piece of wood against it, and then hammer the lip in till it is smooth. if done carefully you can perform this w/o destroying your paint job. _________________ 3 928s, |

Thanks 'D'hook so Nick you have 8" 16 in the back??
50s ..aside from a repaint maybe you can adjust the rear ride height on the rubbing side a little not enough for friends to notice. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Nick what are the spacers you have now running?
Mine was exactly the same... do you not recall our conversations? Only the drivers side would hit.
I went down to 16mm spacers. Well two 8mm spacers. Not the best solution but they were cheap. There are factory 15mm spacers but they are hard to find... and not cheap.
Try to find a set of those and I am sure your issue will go away.

I'm running the stock 21mm rear spacers. Eric- I thought you had trouble with the fronts rubbing?
Anyway, I'm a little nervous about the paint cracking around the fender lip if I try to roll. I'm thinking about just picking up a pair of 15mm spacers (I see that H&R makes some). I just have to make sure there's enough room on the inside to space the wheels inboard 6mm.

No the fronts are perfect. I did need to put longer studs on it though.
The drivers side rear was the issue. I had the stock spacers on and the drivers side rear hit once the alignment was done. Was fine before it was aligned.... weird.
Anyway I went to 16mm as I said and that side was no longer an issue. Actually I think I am running the stock spacer on one side and 16mm on the other at the moment. I know not good but I plan to have the stock spacers machined down to 16 or 15mm at work... if the shop manager will go for it!
