I have an early 77 - 924. Looking at the engine I have discovered the EGR housing is completely rusted out and missing the lower part. Can I pull the whole unit (with pipe leading into the intake manifold) without affecting the engine performance? It doesn't seem to be working anyway. If I remove it - I will have to plug the line into the manifold right?

The 2nd question is do I need the air pump? If I remove it - what will be the consquences in the engine performance?

Thanks -

by removing all of those you will gain performance on the vehicle, but you might want to check with you local emissions laws to see if they require it

Lizard,
The emissions tests for this old of a car are not applicable in our state (most of the inspectors could not even find the EGR valve under the air box [intake manifold] on our 924's) only the safety items are looked at - brakes, lights, horn, mirrors etc......

I guess I need to plug all of the holes into the intake manifold????

There will be no changes to the timing etc..... right?

Thanks

It's best to keep the Auxilary Air Regulator still hooked up. You will need to run a vacuum line to the distributor (maybe 2, depending on the model) Also, run a vacuum line to the brake booster. Should be Ok after that.
