Entered the 931 in the Cimarron Tech concours and here are the results:

The Good. It was the best 924 there. Actually it was the only 924 there. They put in the the 62 to 81 class against 930's and 356's.

The Bad. It placed 4th in class (out of 4), but not last overall.

The Ugly. Zuffen for making me do it (enter).

Actually the faults they found on the car were from my inexperience in this type contest. Examples of my omissions were dried paste wax in crevises, didn't repolish after driving it there in the rain, spare tire wheel not repainted to match the cars color, used black moly grease on jack so it looked like old grease, etc..

In retrospect I would do it again and probably will next year. It was a great learning experience and only cost $10 which is a lot less than the value of the 4th place placque.

As a concour judge in MetroNYPCA and a past student of a PCA national judging seminar I would never enter a concour. UNLESS you are truly brain dead. The entrants that are serious do nothing else but clean their cars. Our concour chairman won PCA Manhattan Trophy 3 times which is the best in show I believe the parade. You could eat off the bottom of the car. He does not clean parts he buys new fasteners etc.

If you want to concour your car go ahead. Have fun. I just think it is a waste of time. Talk about anal.

Vince,

Didn't see anyone that was anal at this concours. The winner (overall) was Arch Monson with 175.6 points out of 190 possible and he drives his 911 quite often. It could change next year when a western AR region merges with ours, but right now it is a fun show/concours. BTW there was only one trailer queen and it was a racer in the show (not concours).

It is impresive to see concours cars in person but I couldn't imagine spending the time cleaning and maintaning a car in concours condition. I understand the want to have a clean car, I detailing mine on a pretty regular cycle to keep it looking slick but I can't imagine worrying about rust on a bolt on how this washer is no longer shiny.

It did take a lot of time detailing it, but most of the labor/cost had already been invested in the body restoration. I will never get it back to showroom condition so the rusty bolt will have to stay. An ulterior motive for showing it was to show the general population and other Porsche owners that the 924 is not a VW and can look good even when 20+ years old. If more of us did it, who knows?

So I guess Zuffen didn't enter any of his cars.

Bart,

Since Zuffen is a PCA club officer he was too busy to enter his. There is also something about them wanting all the paint to match. BTW where in OK are you located?

Joes924Racer,

I hope you quoted her based upon time and material.

None of you can see the inside of my car!
Do you get negative points for coffee cups?
I wish I had a car that clean.
You will win next time.

Augidog,

Yep, they probably would deduct. But if there was a lot of them, they probably couldn't see any stains on the carpet so maybe it would be a wash.

I'm in up the road in Bartlesville. I had planned on attending the Tech Concours but it fell on the day we had my daughters b-day party.

Bart,

From 85 to 91 I drove my 80 mocha brown 924 to Bartlesville at least 5 days a week. Worked at MedSource in Dewey.
