|
|
Can anyone tell me the price of a CIS tester in their neck of the woods? I have checked the price here and the local parts supplier wants AU$1,100 (~US$850) for one. I happen to think this is ridiculous but maybe it's just what they cost. The supplier was Repco and I can't recall the brand name of the CIS tester but it was the only one they supplied.
If these units are substantially cheaper overseas and I could get one shipped in, I would be interested in doing so. Would anyone be able to give me a supplier to contact or would anyone be interested in doing the transaction privately? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I gave a link to the cis tester that's available from JCWhitney here:
http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=6571
It's currently selling at $56 US$.
They say (and I quote), "We ship almost anywhere in the world!" _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

OK, so Roger's got one... Here's the obvious question (aw, c'mon, you knew I'd ask...) Are they any good? I can't imagine why one unit would cost US$850 and another would cost US$56. I mean, unless Repco are just criminals (entirely possible ), I would assume that there is some HUGE difference in quality or that the more expensive version gives a more accurate diagnosis of the CIS. Can you confirm or refute this wild assumtion? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Well the actual guage I have is very light weight and wouldn't take much abuse. The hose configuration is a little different also. I have only seen one other tester that my mechanic had. The valve slected either control pressure or system pressure. Mine simply closes the control pressure. I have seen pictures of the Bosch unit and on it the valve selects either pressure. The Bosch unit is the OEM part and you can buy them here for about $150 so I would say the $850 is a rip off. _________________ 1981 924 NA

Yeah I doubt theirs is $800 worth more accurate. The $56 JCWhitney item I got is identical to the one from Performance <click> that sells for $147.
The gauge is marked 0-100 psi and 0-7 bar (kg/cm2) -
6 adapter fittings were included (3 are attached to the lines in the pic) -

These folks also have a $50 unit that is more than adequate for home use: http://www.bmpdesign.com/index.shtml
My son ordered a SnapOn for his work. They have a $250 a $500 and a $700 kit. Industrial quality and as they go up in price include every adapter know to mankind. Worth $700? Probably if you have a shop situation and are going to want to work on whatever comes in the door.
I very much like the kit I got from BMP. _________________ John
