Nah since we have 113,400 posts, everyone should send 1 cent for each post they've posted so far. That would net $1,134!

Joe and Lizard, what do you think?

Paul, you must have been an accountant in a previous life.

Now Paul, we shouldn't take advantage of the more prolific among us. I've actually gotten very good at "Joe-bonics" and mostly understand what he says.

I think 1/2 penny is more than fair.

I'm with Chrenan on the need to update the technology. We were over at Jazzerpet's shop this week trying to find my sluggish start problem, (which we did; timing was off) and this topic came up.

But so many problems come up when you start charging membership fees. Besides, the Rennlist site is, I would think, much higher maintenance than this one, is moderated 24/7 and generally takes more time out of someone's life (John Dunkle) to keep "clean". It's a $17.95/year membership fee. This is what the Rennlist site offers for the price:

Membership Information
For those Porsche, Audi and BMW owners wishing to expand their relationship with Rennlist and help support its operation we offer a Rennlist Membership. As a Rennlist Member you help ensure the continuance of this site and are entitled to:

A Membership card, which will be sent out as soon as your membership fee is received. Membership rates and payment options are listed below.

Discounts on various caps, t'shirts, pullovers and polo's found at the Rennlist Goodie store. To see what items are available for sale currently, visit http://www.rennlist.org/goods/index.htm

Discounts and/or incentives from Authorized Rennlist Sponsor and Suppliers. For an up to date list on Authorized Rennlist Sponsor and Suppliers offering discounts please visit http://www.rennlist.com/sponsors.html

Members may request a free e-mail account with a RENNLIST.COM address as well as a free webpage within the RENNLIST Domain.

Discounts and/or incentives to attend Rennlist featured track events including Tracquest.

Since we have no t-shirts to sell and no authorized sponsors to give discounts for, maybe, an option for this site would be a "maintenance fee" rather than a membership. It should be low enough not to deter people from joining the site but enough to keep Peter and Scott Vaughan rewarded for their efforts in keeping this site active and accessible.

Or we just dump the whole idea of charging people and ask for donations. This goes back to the "giving until Peter smiles" idea and, IMHO, still the best option. Everyone and anyone who can chip in a few bucks, does so until Peter says he has enough to do whatever needs to be done to keep the site up and running.

Peter, Scott; do you guys have a ball-park number?

I'm thinking donations is the best way, just say when.

I'd be glad to spare a bit for the board, my car wouldn't be where it is if it wasn't for this board and the people here.

I would never want to get into subscriptions. If I pay someone money then I think I have a right to expect something in return. I wouldn't want to create an atmosphere where people expected their questions to be answered immediately because they had paid some money. Besides, the hassle of collecting subs is something I wouldn't want to deal with.

When I work out a price for new hardware I'll post it and if anyone wants to make a donation then that's great, if they don't or can't that's OK too.
