I just got the price for a new speed sensor from the local OPC: $257.46. Ouch! Any ideas?
Also, can anybody give a good description of what exactly the two speed sensors atop the bellhousing do? I know the one in the rear picks up the flywheel, but what does the one in front read and how do the two work together??? _________________ 1987 924S - Was a daily driver...now it's GONE! *sniff*

arent they the same type of device as the electro-magnetic pickup as in the distributor , it senses when the steel tab passes . I know the pickup for a 79 mutang distributor cost $8 . maybe someone with electrical knowledge can take a closer look and see HOW similar they are . if they do the same thing in the same way , it would just be a matter of mounting it .
you might even be able to REPAIR it , this link is for a bike pickup coil but the failure is probably similar .

One is a speed sensor for fuel management and the other senses TDC for timing. The third sensor is for testing. _________________ Glenn Neff

LOL
Thanks for the tip, Paul.
I think $24 beats the hell out of $257, eh? It's a great deal if it works and if it doesn't, well, at least I didn't spend a fortune for it. _________________ 1987 924S - Was a daily driver...now it's GONE! *sniff*

Okay, I'm in the final stages of buttoning this engine compartment back together. (Finally) As I was re-installing the bracket for the two engine sensors on the clutch-housing, I realized something I had overlooked during the removal process: The single wire that goes to the bracket -not to the sensors- was never connected to anything. In fact, it has a rubber cover over the connector-end. Anybody know what this does and why it would be an optional connection? _________________ 1987 924S - Was a daily driver...now it's GONE! *sniff*
