hi guys ive been lurking around for a bit, and now i need a little help with radio installation in my 79 924. i bought a second hand cdplayer, and im having some trouble with the wiring, mainly the speakers, i got power to the player but couldnt get sound to the rear speakers. i labled all the wires in this pic here

wires B1+2 seem to belong to the front speaker, i used a 9 volt batt. to check the poping sounds,
wire E (black) seems to be the ground.
wire F seems to be the power source
and i guess H is the radio.

G and I wires look like speakers, but the 9 volt didnt work and i got no sound to boot. also, i have the the mystery A, C and D wires what are the buggers for? and how do i connect them to a modern cd player?, does any one have any expirance or insight into my problem? thanks for the help guys.

I1+I2 are the factory wire for rear speaker, however the factory speakers are probably shot hence no sound

aw crap, i was afraid you might say that.
how do i take a part the panel with the speakers? my haynes doesnt say anything about it.
also what about the a c d wires? i cant trace where they go after they pass up into the dash, i was thinking maybe A was a constat power connection put in by the last owner, but it didnt seem to work with the cd player..

"A" looks to be the radio power wire? Or is that hiding some place else. The panel in the back was easy to take apart in my car, just two screws on each side. I'm going to be making custom sub enclosure that will fit where the speakers are.

Good luck.

not 100% sure what C is, got a better photo of the wire? and D is the power ant lead,

to get off the quater panel trim you need to pop out the rear quater window and then undo everything around the panel,

i think H is the radio power wire as for C, well it goes up under the dash and into a big silver rectangle, with "blaupunkt" on it
as for A, its just a mystrey white wire with black rubber around it...
oh and i dont have a power antenna, but whatever D is, it gets constant power. (light bulb test)

well, i doubt taking apart the panels by myself is an option so ill have to buy some speakers, and mount them in the back.. whats the best way to send a wire all the way to the trunk?

oh one more question, i read in an older post that removing the panel is possible without taking out the window, however, this requires the prying of the door trim, the trim seems to be glued in, my question is, if i seperate the trim for the door will i need to get some kind of water proof glue to reatach the trim properly or am i ok to just put it back on snug?

Can't help much with the other wires, but 'H' is definately your antenna input.

Someone recently posted about accessing the speakers in the back seat area without taking out the window, you might check the archives for the past 2-3 months to get details. It is the only post I can recall that says it was done successfully (without window removal).

I've done it both ways several times, popping the window is easier in the long run.

To run wires to the back, pop off the plastic cover on the driver's side door sill and follow the path of the rest of the wires that run to the trunk.

thanks, i read your post about the removal, i dont think i like the idea of taking all that apart, however, cutting out the old speaker and puting one in with a grile doesnt sound so bad, has anybody done it and taken pictures?
also the panel is pretty small so i would be forced to forgo the infinity 6X9 speakers ive been looking a lately... the stock speakers are 4x6 right?

It's not nearly as difficult as it sounds, either way. Much much easier that cutting up the panel to get the speaker out, IMHO. And yes, 4x6 is stock size.

You should find it real easy to remove the panel, then work on the speaker with nothing in the way. The only trick really, is getting the upper piece of vinyl tucked back under the windows' rubber seal when reinstalling it. You could get everything done up to that point, then try the somewhat tedious task of tucking the vinyl back in, or if you'd rather, do it by removing the window.

The wire "C" is for the original Blaupunkt antenna. Looks like someone replaced it with new coax "H". I too am struggling with radio upgrade. My trouble is speakers come on for a couple of seconds and go out. I can turn unit off and back on...speakers work a couple of seconds and go out. Can anyone help?

Could be a short in the speaker wiring, or an impedance mismatch.
