I am envious of all you guys and he buying of all these 924s and 944s.

Don't know if any of you knew, but my 924 was confisacted by the pigs for doing 100mph in Northern Cal en route to an Open Track Challenge last year (never got the car to go any faster than that day). In my foolishness I got caught doing the aforementioned speed without a valid driver's license. Oh well, I only paid US$700.00 for the car- purposefully- so while I illegally drove at least my 944 wouldn't get taken. Nonetheless, on the 924, I blew the head and it had a serious short to the radiator fan at the fuse box, hence I had overheated the car once too many times.

I haven't driven my 83 944 in 6 months and am still getting cash together to get some suspension pieces (M030 spec), two sets of tires/one set of wheels (for both track and street), a roll cage and two racing seats. The interior is completely gutted save for the door panels and the top part of the dashboard (console has been removed).

It's the simplicity of the 924 that brings me back.. I have resigned myself to get another one, but one that is in better shape to start out, at least machanically. Plus, they get better gas mileage than the 944s... Then there's the 951 engine "thing" that still has me wondering, can it be done easily? Hopefully with the next post, there will be some positive news in the 924 dept. Cheers!

Hello !

I bought my car four months ago.
I paid it 1 800 € (about 2 100 USD).
It has been stocked into a garage during two years.
But it was in very good conditions.
No rust, the engine was incredibly clean, and... It was my car !

Max.

In 1977 about 12000. I still own the car. 924 Turbo 2100 in mint condition with 65,000 stock miles. Sold the interior to one of our guys and he then entered his car in a concour and won. The plaid interior was in terrific shape.

I gave $1800 for mine ~2 years ago. Drove it about 2000 miles and learned about the front of engine service ... learned how to change the belts, drove it about 600 miles ... learned how to change the headgasket.
It has been my daily driver since. R/F fender had a bad bondo job and dent so I fixed and repainted that. Including the new set of tires I have about $2700 in it
What it needs...
Install the shocks and springs sitting in my garage
Change the tranny oil
Replace the radio antenna with the new electric one in the garage.
Fix the rear windo defog circuit
Fix/replace the P/S window switch
Install the new driving lights
Me to get over the rush of driving it so I can spend some time working on it again

I paid £410.00GBP for my '81 924. It came totally original and with a full years MOT.

It had/has a few problems like it needs:

Drivers electric window motor
Front bumper

I have replaced the 924 wings/fenders (77GBP) with steel 944 ones and I am looking for a GT front bumper/kit.

Swapped the tailgate (standard) for a 924T item (50GBP). Swapping the interior from Pasha to later model pinstripes(200GBP).

Spent 50GBP on service parts (genuine new off Ebay) and 200GBP on a full M471 conversion. Also 100GBP for some 16" BBS rims which I collect tomorrow.

Cost to date is around 1050GBP.

If it costs 2500GBP fully trimmed, repainted and kitted I think its a fair price for a Porsche in good condition. Might even stretch to a turbo conversion when its at that stage, to go the whole GT hog.

BTW....sold most of the swapped parts on so deducting the funds gained back the car has probably cost nearer 750GBP to date with more coming back!

Paid £2100 (GBP) for an 82 model.
The nice points are 1 owner from new ,full service history ,good body work (the odd ding here and there) spotless interior ,orignal touch up paint tube from porsche ,un-opened spare bulb kit ,orignal wheels ,radio casette ,and every mot and bill from day 1!!!.
It`s done 157K miles ,but so what ,it runs like a dream.
Only likes leaded petrol (thats expensive) ,but as a classic car the insurance is very good.

Cheers.

Paid £1595 from a garage forecourt about 4 months ago. Bought with no warranty, and 3 weeks MOT. Passed MOT first time, just spent £350 on exhaust.

A few small blemishes in the paint work, wheels tatty. Interior immaculate. 92k, of which only done 29k since 1982 when the PO bought it.

Full service history by Stratstones, Wilmslow UK until 1992.

Been offered £2000 cash, but I'm sort of in love with it so I'm not keen to sell.

2 1/2 years ago I bought an early '77, it was actually made in '76. I paid 500.00 US$ for it with the intention of it being my son's first car. It had a blown head gasket and ALOT of electrical problems and had been in a major accident as the rear bumper is misaligned by 3/4" (12mm). It also needs synthectic 15/50 and a little oil additive just to maintain 3 bar oil pressure on hot days. So you can say it has had a hard life and is worn out but at least is still on the road.

Well I paid $2000 US 4 years ago, to much for it's condition. I've since done an almost full blown restoration, about 90%. I have over $6000 in mostly new and some used parts. This doesn't include many tools, and a ridiculous amount of labor. I now have spent much more in parts than the cars market value. Although my 924 is almost as good as new (realitivy speaking). All during the 4 years of restoration I was told a hundred times, "you'll never finish", "you'll get tired and lose interest", "it's way to much work", "you should sell it and maybe you can recoup a few bucks", and the all time favorite, "it's gonna be a lawn ornament". Well now it's changed to, "how much do you want for it?", "name your price", "I've never seen one of those in that good of shape", and "you're not actually gonna drive it, it's way to nice". It's amazing how I went from local mechanical quack, to resident porsche genius.

Hello,

I paid $1100 for my 1987 924s with 155k miles, it overheats and I might have tracked the problem down to a bad fan hopefully.

So far I've spent

Universal fan=$65
Thermoswitch=21.99
Thermostat=5.99
Snapring Pliers=11.99

will probably have to buy new hoses, air filter and filter box, plugs, wires, cap, coil and do front of engine service.

Spent about $1000 since.
Just needs cosmetic work now, paint, stone chips, rims, decals.

Pay $1,800 for mine in April.
Put in about $2,000 since then:
I have since torn the dash apart chasing gremlins
starter solenoid
fuel accumulator
plugs, wires, cap, rotor
new cat and back exhaust after it severed completely
rear and front suspension from an 87 924S, torsion assembly and front spindles mounted
4 phones with almost new potenza 950's
miscallaneous interior bits
rear decals
engine oil
new drivers side window regulator and motor
cd player, speakers, wired

What I need to do
replace my steering wheel as the dolts at the alignment shop broke mine
deal with the rest of the little things.

What I want to do
strip the interior, replace it with black on linen ala 944s2guy's
straighten front fender
pull dents, fill chips, replace ugly lower valence with a factory one
repaint same color
Buy a 931 heh.

This being my first Porsche, I am now certain that I am bitten, other cars just aren't anywhere near as fun and satisfying to drive. I'm sure I'll have many more to come, I just hope I can keep affording my 924 through college.

I paid £2200 for my 1985 UK spec 924, (about US$4000), which is probably a little on the high side , but it was in good condition (except for the seats - now re-upholstered) and had a new exhaust (3 months old) and hed recently been serviced. All it needed was a new WUR to get it going properly (plus I changed the cam belt for good measure).

I bought my 1980 924 NA about 2 months ago for $500(US) with a rough body and needing new tires. It ran pretty good, but was missing. I changed the plugs and wires and other various parts (~$100) that seemed to help the missing. I have since put on new tires ($200). I am currently having vacuum/booster issues, but for $500 ($800 total) I am satisfied. I do have the 4 to 5-bolt conversion disk brake wheel stuff, but that will take place at a later time.
