|
|
Well, i was out trying to get the car running right today and the idler pulley broke . The cars been making a squeaking noise lately and i suspected the pulley but never really checked it out. Luckily i was under the hood when it froze up and snapped and i was able to shut it down before it did any real damage. Does anyone here have an extra one they could sell me or know of a place to get a new one. If so let me know.
Thanks....

I hope and I'd pray you avoided engine damage, but unfortunately don't see how that's possible - unless the engine was altered in the past to make it non-interferance.
You should find the pulley at NAPA, probably Autozone, Pep Boys, several places.. I got mine from www.thepartsbin.com . _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Luckily the the belt didnt come off (thank god)....the pulley just broke and seized up. All of a sudden I saw smoke coming off the timing belt from rubbing against the pulley and I shut it right down.
THat would be cool if napa has it....they have a warehouse right down the street from me. I'll check it out tomorrow. |

| Hopefully the belt didn`t jump time. If the timing marks are still lining up, you should be o.k. |

Just purchased a pulley with timing belt from the local supplier here. Came packaged together by Conti. Was about $45 for the two. And you do need both now.
BTW, the newer style pulleys use a shorter bolt that is not, apparently, a standard length. I know some folks are very McGiver with this stuff. I just buy the bolt from Porsche. It's just so much easier (to me) to get the right part and not be bothered with it. _________________ John

ahem... It's "MacGyver".
Now excuse me.. I have to scrape some magnesium off this bike frame so I can start a fire sufficiently hot to melt the lock on the munitions warehouse that's situated behind me.

http://www.eurowebparts.com
Tensioning roller $13.13, $14.14 or $20.20
Timing belt $8.72
If you need the mounting stud, any 10mm bolt of the appropriate length will work, as will any 10mm stud and nut. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |
