Finally got the porsche to start after replacing fuel distributor and fixing all the vacuum lines. But after we got it running was going to fix the rough handling but had to stop working on it for a couple of weeks. Now it tries to run but dies as soon as gas pedal is touched. We are looking at the fuel accumulator and fuel filters now to see if they are clogged or if there is water in the fuel system.Anyone have any ideas or had this happen to them.

I had a rusty tank fouled up the whole fuel sys. for quite a while.
did the same thing. I went on quite a tear to track it down
goin through the system till I was told it was the fuel dizzy
I took it apart and cleaned it up and changed the pressure
among other things,accluminators too.

Check your pressure. Can you keep it running long enough for it to warm up? If so does it smooth out on idle? I had this problem with my 77 turned out to be the WUR.

I "second" the question about will it idle long enough to warm up, and then does it respond when you give it gas? If it still dies, I too would suspect the WUR, but it's a pricey part to change out without really testing it first. It's possible that with the fuel distributor being rebuilt/replaced, the actual air/fuel mixture is now different than it was and might be causing or contributing to the problem. IMO I think it unlikely that you have an actual delivery problem with the distributor seeing it's just been replaced.

Yes, there is the possibility the filter is clogged, but I wouldn't think that it by itself will cause the engine to die "on the gas". If you've got a CIS tester, hook it up and see what values you get.

Unable to get it to stay running long enough to warm up, it starts and then dies.

I'd start by pulling the injectors, putting them in jars, jumpering the fuel pump and raising the airflow sensor. Look at the injector's pattern and measure their output.

Nothing comming out of the injectors would lead me to belive an electrical problem. Pull the fuel return line put it in a gallon milk jug, and jump the fuel pump contacts for the fuel pump relay. 750 cc per 30 seconds.

If the fuel delivery rate is low try replacing the fuel filter, and retest. If the fuel delivery rate is still bad then its most likely the fuel pump.

If the fuel delivery rate is good try starting the car with the jumper wire still on. If the car runs good with the jumper wire its the relay.

When you installed your new distributor, how did you set the airfuel mixture. It sounds like the mixture is set way too lean.

Very possible I had not thought of that good call.
