Well the eBay SE sold for $2650. Must have been the red carpet, or maybe the chrome phone dials. Yet another blow for 924S values.

Tomorrow morning (Dec 10th here), a lady is going to come over and put $7500 cash in my very hesitant hand for the priviledge of owing my SE. I am having HUGH emotional swings about doing this and hope I don't have post sellers regret.

However, the wonderful thing about it is that she has already bonded with the car, is a car person and LOVES Porsches. She promises she'll keep it up and I even get visitation rights .

So, I would say the key in keeping the value up is take good care of the car, have all the maintenance documentation that's available and find the right person. Which probably ain't gonna happen on Ebay as much as I love Ebay for buying stuff. I just got a wonderful set of irons there for 1/3 the normal price.

If she doesn't change her mind between now and tomorrow morning, it's a done deal and I'll be an official EX-924SE'er. Sorry guys..gotta go..getting all choked up here.

Glad to find this board. I just bought an '88 special edition in the Philadelphia region, paying $4700 for it. Has 105k miles, 1st owner, very well maintained, except for more than usual parking lot dings on doors and fenders. This was the 1st porsche I ever bought, and ever drove actually. I was out hunting for an older Saab 900 SPG, but as none were available locally, I looked at this car. I was hooked as soon as I pulled out on the test drive. Wasn't sure about the price, so the next day I went out and test drove an '87 924s, with 95K and also similarly good condition (without even any dings on the body, and nice interior). What a difference. Honestly, if I would have test drive the 87 first, I would not have bought a porsche. So I went back and bought the '88. Mine has no options added. The only thing I miss is a right hand side door mirror (and puzzled as to why this was deleted). Nevertheless I highly recommend paying the extra amount to get such a car. Speaking of which there is 1 now on eBay in the DC area, which even has posi traction.

Question: what was the original tire size for these cars in the back? Mine has 195/65s on all four wheels. Only 1 rim looks wider than the rest. Looking through the service history, I notice that 1 wheel was once replaced after a pot hole incident, at the porsche dealer. I bet the idiots replaced a 7j wheel with a 6j wheel.

ekollector,
that's unfortunate about the lone 7 inch wheel. same thing happened to my 88 sport edition with the 2nd owner of my car. he spent a long time hunting down another 7' for the rear. i only use the 15x6,7 for autocrossing now (perfect sizes for that purpose), and my street rims are 16x7,8 phone dials from an 87 944 turbo (much more aggressive yet balanced look). there's a link to my cardomain webpage in my signature.

Think it's in the Tech section somewhere. Most 924S had 195x65 and the 15x6 phone dials. 205x60 will fit the 6 inch wheel.

A good and cheap upgrade, find some 944 15x7 to fit all around. 225x55 or 225x60 fit fine and the car handle very nice. Please don't pay more than $50/wheel, we don't want to push the market up.

If you don't track the car, I recommend 'touring' tires. Just put some Kuhmo KH11 (?) on my old 944 and the ride and handling are wonderful for street. $60 bucks apiece.

Thanks LJD your car does look nice with the 16 inch wheels - it seems it will be very difficult to source another 15 j7, so I'll start looking around for 944 phone dials as suggested.

ekollector: if you're serious about purchasing the 16' phonedials go to

http://forums.rennlist.com/

there are often some 944S and 944 turbo guys that upgrade the rims on their cars and end up selling the old 16' phonedials to 944 and 924 guys. one thing to be careful of - you need the late offset phonedials (52.3 mm, i believe, the early offset is something like 26 mm). this offset is used on '87 and newer cars.

these wheels are becoming the tasteful rim upgrade of choice for 924 and 944 owners, so unless you're patient, you may end up paying a lot for a set. i was patient and got my set for $800 with brand new dunlop SP8000's mounted. i would've gladly payed over $1000.

if you have any more question feel free to email me. someone from this board was kind enough to crawl under his car to check the part number on his 16' phonedials to help me confirm that i was getting the right offset rims from another guy. so i feel obligated to help out anyone else on the same search.
