Something of interest to me; How do you guys pronounce the model numbers for Porsches?
I've always pronounced 911 as "nine-eleven", as do all my Aussie friends. But my mate from New Zealand pronounces it "nine-one-one". Also, me and my mates have always pronounced the other models numbers singularly i.e. "nine-two-four", "nine-four-four", "nine-two-eight", "nine-six-eight", "nine-five-nine", etc... rather strange, considering our pronunciation of 911! Even weirder, now that I think about it, we always pronounce 914 as "nine-fourteen" (and its big brother the "nine-sixteen").
However, on occasions I have heard people pronounce the numbers like "nine-twenty-four" and "nine-forty-four", etc...
I wonder how Herr Doktor Porsche pronounced them? I believe Germans pronounce actual numbers, say 924, as "neun-hundert, vier-und-zwanzig" for example (which translates literally to "nine-hundred, four-and-twenty" I think). But what about Porsche "typ" numbers?
How do you guys pronounce them? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Cool, thanks JINX3D. But do you say "nine-one-one" instead of "nine-eleven" like my Kiwi mate? (By the way, my old man is a Kiwi. He was born/raised in Papatoe outside of Auckland. Then they lived in Torbay for a while. I've been to NZ a few times. Only the North Island, though. I worked on the Waikato pipeline out of Drury/Papakura for a couple of months in 2000. Beautiful country). _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

This has been partially covered.
For me:
911 - nine eleven
914 - nine fourteen
924 - nine twenty-four
928 - nine twenty-eight
931 - nine thirty-one
944 - nine forty-four
951 - nine fifty-one
964 - nine sixty-four
968 - nine six eight
993 - nine nine three
996 - nine nine six

depends on how technical I want to sound. If I"m making myself out to be a Porsche genious to anyone, I'll say nine-two-four. but if I'm just talking casually, it's nine-twentyfour _________________ werd B. |

I'm with Neil on this one, I always say it "twenty-four" or "thirty-one", with rare exceptions like "nine oh one" and "nine nine six".
Is this politically correct? I was talking with my neighbour who owns a 944, and I said "nine twenty-four" and he sorta gave me a funny look, and never once said 944 aloud _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

I hadn't really thought of it, but now that you mention, I mix it all up saying 924 as "nine two four", but 944 and 928 as "nine forty four" and "nine twenty eight". 911 is pronounced "frog-faced status symbol" or "flat-nose beetle" or just plain "why?".
Naw - just kidding. They carry the same badge as mine, so they can't be all bad. -And if I had one on my driveway I'm pretty sure I'd get used to looking at it.

I am with Neil here on just about all of those... except that I say "nine twenty four" and "nine two four" about evenly. Same with 944.
Always "Nine eleven" though and always "Nine fourteen".
It really is a shame Porsche is making the argument obsolete... I mean, "Boxster" "Cayenne" "Carerra GT2-4" etc... Of course, when it comes to a car like the GT-4, if you own one I'd guess you could pronounce it any way you like.

In Swedish (my native language ) I think most swedes say "nio hundra elva" = "nine hundred eleven" 'coz it's easier...
But they would probably say "nio tjugo fyra"= "nine twenty four" and the same goes for the 944, 928 and 968 models...
Just my 2 cents... Or a really short intro into the Swedish language...
Regards
Magnus
PS
In English I would say "nine eleven", "nine twenty four", and so on. But then again, I'm not that fluent in English!
