will the kokeln short shift work on a '79 na? On the tweeks website it says that it is for the 924 as well as the 944 but everywhere else i go it says nothing about it being for the 924. _________________ Speed kills: drive a Honda and live forever

the 1979 that has an audi tranny it will work with if it has a dogleg/snailshell/915 based tranny then no it will not work for it, to tell look under the a$$ of the car at the tranny are the cv joints connected to the rear most section of the tranny or front section? _________________ 3 928s, |

I've never known a '79 to have anything but the snailshell? Check out the thread on this very subject in the performance upgrades section here.
To answer your question, no the kit listed for 944's won't work on the '79. You need a 928 5-spd shift kit, which happens to be much simpler to install too.

Mine (-79 924 NA) got the 4 speed Audi transmission, but I guess that combination only existed on European market cars...
In this case, I should be able to use a 944 short shift kit, then?
Regards

Wow, thanks for the info Magnus. I really didn't know that.
I might actually be liar about the 928 shift kit- I just looked at the PET and the part numbers for the 928 shift lever are different than for our 924's. It sure looks the same though-
Looks like we need to compare ours to the stock 928 levers before anyone does any ordering... FYI, the 928 shift kits are ~$90.

hmmm porsche that shiofter folks looks more like
a pricy cosmetic it looks nice in blue ,you know I
just cut mine down last year took about 2 inches off the top..
that reminds me of a story ,We hired this kid a few years ago
to work drywall with us... and he shows up with a new
30 dollar drywall axe [hammer] and he notices my partners
and my axe have a few inches off the end for a shorter swing
we tell him so the next day this kid brings his shortened axe in
and man that kid had taken off about 5 inches 'Oh it was so funny'
the axe was useless now. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

just cutting the top off does NOT make it a short shifter
to make a snailshell shifter a short shifter you have to add material between the 2 holes in the shifter. _________________ 3 928s, |
