I just did a search for 924's on Ebay. I was shocked at how little people are willing to part with a great fun sports car for.
Now, sure a lot of them are selling them at "garage sale" prices just to be rid of the insurance and associated costs, but, if we don't start placing a higher value on the enjoyment of (sometimes) driving these cars no one will.
On the other hand... they are a cheap way to get a bitch'n car.
If you enjoy the virtues of driving "classic" technology that is.
Which isn't nearly as bad as it sounds.
When, if you sell your car don't forget to factor in the intangibles!

Just a rant, thanks for the forum!

Factor in the intangibles all you want, but there's no-one alive who's going to buy a 2.0 litre 924 for much over $5,000-$6,000 unless that car is both perfect and an excessively rare example. You cannot price for what you wish it was worth, you have to price it for what the market will bear.

ah grasshopper , one must open his eyes to see the love, respect ,and esteem people have for these cars . with the wife complaining "what are you gonna do with that junk car in the garage ,its in the way taking up space. " and year after year ,there caretakers ,patiently await a day to resurect there old friend . and when they are forced to part with her , they dont send her quietly into the night . they seek out a kindred spirit , in the great void called the net ,who care enough ,to send money into the unknown , travel for many moons , on the slight chance that he too can join the brotherhood of travelers .just to mention the name, will stop women in there tracks ,just to glimps the caretaker who pilots the spirit , he dreams of the day, when he can whisk past the masses , the drone of the tires, the growl of the engine and the howl of the wind form a symphony , that whispers , poorschaa , as he passes

Lamenting the fact that you won't be able to turn a profit when you sell? You should be happy that the buy-in is so low. If you wanted a Porsche that would appreciate in value, the first thing you need to do is drop water as you engine coolant. The next thing is make sure the car doesn't say "914" on the rear. Then you may have a chance to get a Porsche that has investment potential.

I bought low, sold low, and had a great time driving it.

"That was beautiful, WDB. " - I second that

Honestly, what's models do appreciate? Other than limited production models (959, 2.7RS, etc.) the only ones that come to mind are early 911 S's and 2.0L 914's, and 356's. What do they have in common? They're both OLD, the numbers of good examples are dwindling, and they have a certain nostalgia to them. The combination of those three points is a pertty positive indicator of market value.

Alot of models hold steady in the market, but to appreciate in value really takes some time. The resurgence of 914's was a big surprise to everyone. I can imagine the same thing happening to 924's given some time.

The market for 924's seems to at least be steady- the same certainly can't be said for 951's, their value has been steadily dropping like a rock. However, the 924 can't get much cheaper than it already is! Our models do seem to be invoking interest overseas lately, this could be an indicator of the future. But don't hold your breath. For now at least, these cars were meant to be driven and that's what we should be worrying about!

It is sad the the 924 hasn't got the value of the other Porsche models. But the great thing about owning a Porsche is being part of a Marque. A prodigee that is Excellence. ANd pure determination to be the best. Being 924 Owners does give you this sence of belonging to a heritege that, has proven and stood the test of time. Most 924's where still built by hand on jigs, that alone you cant get with many models. Always makes me feel good to know someone (person) worked his Butt off for my car, and not a machine. That pride , hard work , and some sweat and blood has provided me with an exceptional car. Will I ever get my investment back. Maybe not? But that doesn't matter, As much as I would much rather drive a crappy Porsche than a new Honda anyday. And never did I get that feeling of Exceptional car as I do in my Porsche as I did when I did own a Honda.
Another thought What other car marque where a 25 year old 924 can pull up to a new 911 and sit next together and have a talk about Porsches and how great there cars are. There are just things that come from owning a Porsche no matter what model that is simply Priceless. SO you ask me about the value of my car when I sell. I think the Value is unspoken and when I pass the reigns of my Prodigee on to someone else. I don't just sell him or her a car, I sell them a legacy, and knowing that helps with the fact that I just sold my car that I have toiled over for months for $1500

I justify the time and money I put in to my car because I don't think I will get bored off it, the next car I want to buy is a bnw e36 but I still plan to keep my 924. Like most here I imagine, Id like to convert it to a carrera gt-s and hopefully I will oneday.

I was offered an early 924 for $300. I passed too many cars. A friend bought it and for 50 dollars fixed the tranny. I missed a very good car. He will soon be on this board.

It is a really nice straight car.

They are out there you just have to look.

No, but it kind of ressembles Zuffen's pic doesn't it?

That's my "puppy". She can usually put away more groceries than me. I just got some pics developed of her in the foliage...

thanks its easy when the hearts in it .

for me the resale value is not an issue , in the past 20+ years, I have spent more time than I care to remember , getting to know to many used cars , each 1 with its own quirks and problems . if I had kept the first 1 67 chevy nova 11 , I could have rebuilt it twice for the money I spent fixing the rest of them . I'm near 40 , I'm done learning about and fixing more used cars . I gunna fix this porsche and ride off into the sunset . I love the looks , the handling is like nothing Ive ever driven , and I worked at a car rental place , driving brand new early nineties cars , honda, caddy, grn prix ,mustangs etc . the first time I drove it , I was hooked , now if I can just get the universe to cooperate

I cant wait for the day the car is done ! well I should a 924 is done , the I have now is the parts car ,hopefully I'll find 1 in better shape and save alot of time and money .

(Sniff)...really moved me man.

My wife says the same thing so each winter I find a garage to rent and keep it there. Then I bring it over in the spring and do what needs to be done to drive it for the next few months. This past summer I put a new interior in and updated the gauges. It runs terrific and I am happy to say that I haven't had to fix a darn thing this summer except for a new fuel relay! (knock on wood)

The wife doesn't understand how someone can be so attached to a piece of machinery. But that's okay...I don't understand why anyone needs more than two pairs of shoes.

It says "Poorschaa" to people outside as it drives by. Mine keeps whispering Fiix meee as I dirve it.

Buy the way, I had my son, for whom this car in intended, read your post wdb. Just so he will get how lucky he is!!
