As I stated in another post I didnt put the clamps back
on first and took off the wipers to paint the car and
I put the wipers back on with out putting the clamps on
seems the windshield slid down on the drivers side a bit
cause when I installed the wipers the wiper body
crunched the glass causing a crack to shoot up the glass
aboyt a quarter of the way.
How do these things come out Ill call a glass place and
see how much they want to install one like Vince says
probly around 200 bucks.

if i remember from when the guy's put a new screen in mine (had a crack when i first got the car) you remove the metal and rubber strips from around the edges, then there are a series of clips around the sides and top edge of the screen.. think they used a small driver or something to pop them out... but the screen was also bedded in with some kind of sealant, took both blokes to push it out from inside the car while also running a thing blade around the edges (from the inside)...

didn't look the kind of job i'd want to be doing myself!

I took 2 blocks and wrapped piano wire around them. Sawed through the rubber around the window and cracked it badly. It came out but the cleaning around where the windshield came out was very messy. For the cost of a hundred bucks or so, I wouldn't try it again. Just not worth the time. Took me hours of trouble. That was on an old golf.

Cost should be around $300 USD, including labour and the glass.

Maybe you should look into the late 944 windshield too, as it's flush

This is one job I gave up years ago and let the pros do it. They have the knowledge and the tools and the extra hands to do it right. All it takes is one little nick on the edge of new windshield to start a stress fracture. If you let a shop do it, it's their responsability. Modern shops have ultrasonic probes to go around the windsield when it is in to make sure the seal is 100%. Now tht's cool!

As I understand it the 944 has a flush windshield just because it has a block under it that raises it up, the glass is the same glass we have.

Our windsheild (broken during a theft of stereo equipment) cost $249 at Windsheild Doctors.

I've been told Porsche cold bonds the windshield to the frame. Don't ask me what this means because I don't know. What I do know for sure is that this process causes even the professionals a lot of grief. When I had my car painted I wanted the glass removed so the paint shop told me they contract out their glass work. No problem, I just wanted it done right.

Well their glass people broke the original windshield when removing it. Still no problem for me, the paint shop absorbed the cost of replacement. Where I ran into problems was trying to re-install the 3 rain gutters which are clipped to the frame around the windshield. It seems the paint shops' glass people like to use LOTS of sealer around a new windshield. So much sealer in fact that the windshield sits about 3/8" away from the frame. No leaks but can't re-install the rain gutters because they sit 3/8" too high to catch their retaining clips in the window frame.

I'm stiill battling with the paint shop to have this problem rectified at their expense rather than mine. Ofcourse every glass shop in town will tell you they can replace your glass but I would recommend finding out which shop the Dealership uses. Chances are they'll do the job right the first time. It's a Porsche, not a Chevy.

I am not sure about this, but I think I remember that the window uses a ribbon gasket. Its sold at most auto parts store's. It comes in a cardboard box and its a black round substance about as thick a a pencil wound up in a circle and separated by wax paper. The material has the consistancy of putty, but its sticky and black like tar. Its quite plyable and never hardens. Alot of glass shops will use tons of silicone to make sure there are no leaks. I have never done this procedure befor so take this with a grain of salt.
