This one may be a surprisingly un-noticed engine. The present 3.8L 232ci as available in the '99 to '02 Ford Mustang, is a 9.7:1, EFI, 190 HP/220 Lb/Ft, aluminum head, V6. I have been diving a '02 Mustang LX w/5spd for 3 weeks now, and can say that it is a smooth, and torquie motor. In a 3100Lb Stang it gives a weight to power ratio of 16.3:1 that would be 13.15:1 in a 2500Lb 924. The only tricky bit I see is a set of headers for it to fit. The pre-'99 3.8 V6's were real dogs at only 150 HP, oh but that is still better than the early 944's.
If you sould try this swap it may be best to get a complete donor car, so you don't have to find all the auxilery gear.
There was a supercharged version of this engine in the Thunderbird, but I don't have info on that car. But Procharger and Vortech both make superchargers for this engine rated up to 290 HP. And I have seen turbocharger kits claiming up 350+ power for it also.
Still I know most of you may think why bother but it is something to think about.
