Did it really only sell for $58,000 in 1986? I thought it would have been more than that, I heard the last year it was sold the price was $170,000 or something amazing like that...

"you have to understand that the 928S was porsches flagship of the year and it sold for around $58,000 USD in 1986, and parts are really expensive, especially the front windshield, so if a rock flies up and chips the front window it will cost them ALOT of money, I think it is around $3,000 for it, if I took comprehensive off I would probably save some money on it"

Actually, that's not quite true... (aside from the driver) ICBC bases the rates on the blue-book value of the whole car. Bear in mind that many parts of the 944 series are astronomically expensive too...from example the windshield of a late 80's 944. There are lots of older cars with relatively low blue-book values that have parts that are mega-bucks. I can't imagine ICBC thinking that parts for 25 year old 911's are cheap.

Also, comprehensive coverage does not add thousands of dollars to the yearly insurance. It's not that much more expensive that regular insurance.

No... it sounds to me that ICBC has changed the rate structures. The 928 may be "flagged" as a high performance car, and this factor, coupled with your age, has put you in the very high premium bracket.

A few months ago I was looking at an 87 944 Turbo (at a dealer... too much, BTW). Out of curiousity I checked how much the 944T would have been for the year with full coverage. For me it worked out to about $1,200 (Canadian)/year. Even though the 944T's were less expensive than the 928, I still don't think they were that cheap.

It soundslike your really being burned by ICBC Normally their rates aren't too bad compared to most other places.

My insurance company almost charged me a "performance" fee of an extra 25% on the 924. Sad thing is, my dad's car is worth like 10x as much and has almost double power but he isn't charged that. He also has lower insurance then me.

I have no accidents tickets etc. Driver training completed. No lapses, no problems anywhere.
I hold the world record on here I think, for the biggest insurance wallet kill story. I was up to just over $550 per month a year ago. This is without any coverage except the lowest possible liabilty. That's right, risking liability here too, and for 550 a month?.. normal people have 1-2 million liability. I'm thinking I might as well just drive without a license plate, the fines in court would be less than my insurance rate. Even if someone sued me, it would still be cheaper than my insurance rate.

I checked into every single insurance agency out there, even out of province ones, and their lowest rates were over 7000 per year. I found a company that had low liability for 550 a month and I thought this was a steal in comparison to the 7000 yearly plans. $550 a month was a deal! (how sick I felt too, thinking 550 was a good deal)

Don't know what it is about Edmonton, but I will at some point get revenge with the insurance agents. What can you do.. can't stop driving, rates go up if you do that. Throw bricks through their windows? doesn't help.

As for collector insurance there is some garbage about you having to be over 25 or what not.

Now my insurance is down to $400/month. I hope that it goes to 300 or 200 next year.

And it don't matter if it's a 924, or a chevy, or a ford.. still $400 (550 back a year ago).

I could almost just ride a bike, and buy a house, or put a *couple* houses on mortgage instead of driving a car. But you are caught because if you stop driving, your rates stay the same or go UP when you go back on insurance again. At least that's what they tell me.. maybe they just want you to stay on the plan. But i know lapses make it a worse rate.

I want to come sell insurance in Canada.
Better yet, I buy a house at the closest point to mid way between all of ya'll and you can register your car in the U.S. and carry insurance down here that should cover you for any accedents should they occur because you were just visiting....there has to be a way around those prices.
I was pissed because I am paying $1000.00 a year.

I'm in Edmonton and pay under $1,000 per year for a 2001 car. Call Millenium Insurance in Sherwood Park.

For your 924 have an appraisal done and take it to CBL Oxford insurance in Kingsway Garden Mall and get it insured on a collector car policy.
