| How do you test the ignition switch? How do you remove the switch, I look through the haynes manual and couldn't find it. |

3 main circuits I would check from the ign. switch. Power supply, power when cranking, and power with key in the on position.
I think you have a 931, so I am guessing on wire colors. On the back of the switch where it plugs in, red wire is power supply constant battery voltage (track 30). Ignition switch on, black wire gets 12v (track 15). And you should get 12v while cranking at the blk/red wire (track 50)
Once again, I am not sure of your wire colors, but they may be close.
You can either use a powered test light or a dvom to check your power sources.
Its been a while since I pulled a switch out, but I remember there was a 6mm allen on the bottom of the switch which you can see through a hole in the plastic steering column cover. the key had to be in and in the on position to pull out the switch....or was that just the lock cyl? Its been a while. |

Thanks for the info but I'm trying to find out exactly how to test and or remove the ignition switch. Please don't get offended by my new post. I don't see a 6mm allen bolt on my steering coloum and I been having bad luck with this car since I started it sat for 5 yrs in the elements with the windows rolled down and the hood up. I came a long way so far and expensive also. |

| Switch removal is on page 193 of the Haynes book. I changed mine last winter. |

You can test it by hotwiring the car (info in the Tech Section). If your problem goes away, clearly it's the ign switch. You don't have to remove the switch or anything more complicated than reaching under the dash to hotwire it. _________________ Vaughan Scott
