I posted this in the performance section, but i think this is probably a more appropriate section to do it. What is involved in installing a fuel cell into my car. Also is it street legal and stuff like that. I know plumbing might be a little funny, but as long as i can fill it from the outside i am cool with it.

I'm guessing they're legal, since drag cars sometimes run them. Good luck filling them from the outside though. Plan to have to open the hatch and open the door on the cell cover.

You can also expect to pay a lot of cash for the plumbing. You'll also need a second smaller tank/cell, known as a surge tank - this is needed for fuel injected cars to ensure adequate constant fuel delivery.

Why would you want one? I don't even have one, and I'm actually racing!

I can't find a place that can clean my tank around me. Just mechanics that i would end up spending more getting it cleaned most likely. Called porsche and they want $2,050 for a new tank. Yes that is not a typo. 2 thousand dollars for a tank. That and it would be cool to say guess what, i have a fuel cell.

This is pretty much the info i wanted to know. Fuel cell is pretty much outta the question now. Seemed too good to be true to get a $100 gastank.

It is actually running fine. I have been flushing it a lot and i have most of the free floating crap outta there. Injectors are still clogged a little though. I am up to it, my dad just doesn't want me to do it. My mom is all for it so i think i might be able to persuade him after he finds out how much the mech is prolly gonna charge me.

That is what i want to do. My dad is a pain in the ass. If it comes to something he knows nothing about, then no one except someone who is a certified mechanic does. I get charged $50 an hour by my mechanic and when my dad sees how mcuh i am gonna get charged he will prolly change his mind. He wants me to ditch the car and save for college. Where is the fun in that though??

That's too bad... the collective knowledge, not to mention my own, with respect to this model would completely bend your local garage mechanic over backwards.

Check out the price on The Eastwood Company's website... they sell all kindsa really awesome stuff, like what you'd buy to restore old Chevies or the like.

Seriously?? How come? I'm not being sarcastic, I just want to know why this is necessary.. Is this done with stock fuel systems?

Tell your dad that your time and investment in your Porsche is going to be a waste of time if this is not done. Have your mechanic write you up an estiment for cleaning your tank. Then have him write up an estiment to replace injectors, fuel distributor, filters, accumulators, pumps, AND cleaning the tank! Maybe then he'll see the wisdom in cleaning the tank now.

I'm going to have to agree on the saving part, though. Your dad is definetely right here! [for a nitrous kit!!]

Yeah, mechanic said i should replace it rather then cleaning, be cheaper in the long run. He also said it would be cheaper to install a fuel cell but would like to avoid moding the car too much cause it is a frankencar already. Already need new injectors but i am waiting untill i got the entire system clear before i get the good stuff.

Pick a phone book and look for a used one under porsche ,used porsche,porsche parts used.independent porsche mechanics
and get a used one.Done put a fuel cell in there
