A friend bought our 88 924S, and we took it to the track (Blackhawk Farm, a road course) over the weekend for a high speed autocross. (1 lap around the track for time). Ran in class CS.

The shocks are shot all around and the springs are weak.

It has the stock front and rear sway bars.

During cornering and acceleration, one of the rear tires kept lifting and spinning.

During cornering and braking, the inside rear tire kept lifting and locking.

Don't want to spend a ton of money, any suggestions?

Well, obviously the first thing is tires, but we're not talking about those here.

Assuming you're only occasionally tracking the car and want to mainly still drive it on the street... shocks, well, you know you want new ones. The Koni yellow sport single-adjustable are pretty hard to argue with, and the adjustability is nice to tune with. I actually ended up running with them mostly full soft on track, but that was due to trying to dial out chassis issues. The single-only adjustable means that you're only controlling rebound damping, not jounce (compression), giving limited tuning options.

You'll want swaybars after that, but they can aggravate some of the wheel-lift issues you're already experiencing. Even so, it'd be worth it. I recommend the Cup Car bars front and rear:

Better quality and less expensive than Weltmeister.

After that, maybe bushings, but I wouldn't rush that...

If your up to the job, you may want to replace the torsion bars in the rear and upgade the front springs. Also lowering the car would make it feel a little more stable but it's difficult to get it right in the rear if your not doing it on an alignment rack. Also you may want to consider going with new bushings.

Yeah, you really need swaybars and shocks. You probably don't even have a rear bar, do you?
