The holes in the body pan where the evaporator lines go through need to plugged somehow. Also, if you remove the blower motor cover, you will see a large 4x6 inch rectangular hole where the venting for the evaporator goes. You`ll be able to see inside the car when the evaporator and ducting is removed. This hole should probably be plugged to avoid getting water in the car.
I deleted my a/c in my 78, but I have not gotten around to completing all the technicalites. I`m going to wait until I tear out the interior. |

| the a/c system doesnt wiegh that much, so carring it around doesnt cost much . I would leave it in. it can be repaired, replace/rebuild the bad compressor and lines, recharge with the coolant . I posted links in the link section to suppliers of the compressor rebuild kit,and the other needed parts . after you get the car in great shape, you'll want A/C . find out how much it will cost to repair it before you decide to remove it , you might be suprised . |

I ripped my 924's a/c system out, since everything was broken (mechanically and electrically). I'd say everything weighed 50-70 pounds altogether. I wouldn't have torn it out if it were easily fixed though. It gets hot here. Hopefully the heavens are smiling upon me and the turbo's a/c system is fixable.

I was wondering how many people on the board have and use there air, my car still has everything installed but does not work, I was alittle worried about the strainon the engine while using the air, I know around here in ohio the small cars with air, are the first to make it to the junk yard with a blown engine. Any comments? If everyone else has good luck with air I will get mine going. Thanx Chris 77 924 _________________ 924 man and luv it |

| My A/C is installed and works great. It does tax the engine at idle but all it does is drop the rpm by 150. When moving you do not really notice any difference. The A/C system works well for being 20+ years old If you have it keep it. Cars with working systems are pretty rare. |

It was never installed on mine. Not too many cars in Europe had A/C 25 years ago, especially in this car's price range. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

My a/c does work and i don't use it anyway in my other car that has it working. Might as well lighten the load a little and get rid of it. If it was just some wrench time i think why the hell not. I don't want to pay to fix something i will never use because that money can go towards a lot of other good stuff. _________________ 90 944 S2

My wallet says the same thing. Better to have some money in it when i don't need it then to not have money in it when i do. _________________ 90 944 S2

In South Texas it is not an option, it is manditory.
My 82 has a 134a system on it and it works but not well enough. _________________ '84 944

Mine's there and working. Being the nut case tinkerer that I am, I put a vacuum switch on the compressor so it shuts off when I press on the gas - even that works. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Thanks. Actually I thought of it many years ago as a young lad when I had the Honda and the big purple van... I went down to the NAPA store and asked the man if there was some kind of switch I could wire in to cut out the a/c compressor upon acceleration. The man said, "Why yes young man." and proceeded to the back. He returned and presented a switch made for exactly that purpose - it was an actual part for a Mercury or Cadillac or something or other and said, "$10". I said, "I'll take two." and away I went. Ever since, every time I replaced a car, the switch came out and went into the new(er) car. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."
