I have oil leaking from the back of the Block dripping down on to the exhaust. I have a new valve cover gasket ( Valve cover just beadblasted to clean up the corriosion and make it look new) Do the distrubtors have oil seals or gastkets? Are they a common leak Point? or is the Head gasket leaking at the back left of the block ? I can't see behind the block to try to pin point the leak. any ideas? I figure that it could be the dist. because of the slant engine ( see simple but crude diagram below)

| The housing that mounts the distirbutor to the head was leaking real bad on my 78. I think it was held on by 3 bolts. You might want to look at that housing first. Just a tought. It has been a few years since I fixed it. |

| you can put some high temp silicone around the distributor housing ,or the valve cover seam, to stop the oil leak temporarily , till you get the time to take it all apart, and fix it right. be sure to clean it well with solvent . |

Only way to tell is to clean up the oil and take a closer look at where its leaking from. Distributor is a good bet though. _________________ 1981 924 NA

.45c Paper Gasket, no more burnning oil smell everytime I stop and get out of the car = PRICELESS. I had Cleaned up the back with some break cleaner and bought a little inspection mirror and I could see a little piece paper gasket hanging down. on the back side of the distubtor. I was'nt sure if anybody had run in to a rear block leak it was in the wrong place to be the rear main. I am glad that it was'nt the other distributor gastet though. _________________ Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.
