I don't know that any of us can help you. Sounds like the 12 volt supply was shorted. You just need a wiring diagram and lots of patience.

I'd say spend a couple hours at the junk yard and pull a interior wire harness section and just replace your burned up one.

I released the instrument cluster harness completly from the back of the panel..theres what appears to be a couple of big ground lugs around the panel stuck to the body with a bunch of brown wires runnen to it 'well I 'traced a brown wire fron the main instrument cluster to the little instrument cluster all thru the main instrument cluster it was messed up didnt melt none of the other wires just stuck to them so I seperated it out and will replace. ..Im gonna clean up all the lugs and vaselene them for corrosion protection...
I cant beleive I took it all out from behind the steering collumn and unwrapped it all...now its a rats nest ..hope this works.I think it started from a heater wire left over anyway theres a bunch of wire not needed in there Im taking out..have a nice little pile growen on the ground. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

I could be wrong, but one side should go to ground and the other should go to a hot lead, probably a red wire.

yes thats in parallel I think ...
did you know the reason people dont generally
run with amp guages is because of the
thickness of the wire it would take
its kind of scary.
Heres a good link.On voltmeter installation.
http://www.totallytriumph.net/dcforum/DCForumID5/151.shtml
Wonder if I fried my voltmeter.. somehow..find out saterday.
I have diagnostic tune-up anylizer thats
shows voltage & amps. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Thats a good triumph link. The spitfire is a good car my dad bought one
for my sis in Denver in 78 ..nice car
The voltage guage hooks up where to where [a switched source in the harness]. Where does it get its power? _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Well went to a b-que ,tri tip,bakers,,chicken,saled
after I worked all day on it .Used the volt meter
from the anylizer and tested different loads ,
switched and unswitched then got the tach to work
and the guage on the far left to settle down
then the tach and then I decided to take the harness
out clean out and organize it wrappinit in places..
then the fuel pump decides to not work
so I loosen it up in the back removin those
rubber seals theres good voltage so I put down
the nuts and it turn out one lug is stripped where
its supposed to get snug so I fix that..secure
a switched load (heater) for the mini cluster
oil guage then use the ignition for volts
all wires the same guage as was intended...
no the tach wont work ...its all apart in the
driveway being cooperative till
morning....there a few bugs left....I think the
alternators are both good..This all started cause
I moved around some wires sticken my hand
in to tighten down the speedo after I moved it to
the far right its goin back in center where it easier to see.
Man are we haven fun!! _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
