i thinl ill buy the manifold from JAM and then get the other parts elsewhere. i can get a set of dellortos (sp?) for 100$ and the pump and lines and regulator should be to expensive.
epsylon,
what make of pump r u using? ie weber, holley. or could i use the Porsche intank pump and dial the pressure down?
what about cam specs? i was thinking of P&P eventually and was wondering what kind of lift/duration i should use. lloking for good off the line, low end, with a good middle range i think. any suggestions
one more thing. after i finish this CIS to carb conversion i was thinking about adding a s/c. does anyone know where i can get one for a carbed engine. ie donor car. if its going to be too expensive to buy one from a comapny i wont do it. anything that needs to be fabed wont be a problem either. _________________ '79 924 - in the works

If you use a good blower (or turbo)you will, in one step, overtake any gains made via the other two and have to scrap both the carbs and cam.
Cams with a lot of overlap do not work well with a blower or turbo and most carbs will not operate under much positive (or negative) pressure so blowing through them from a supercharger might not work.
Do one or the other in my view.
Cheers

yup, straight from the maximum boost book- with turbo/SC, carbs are not nearly as efficient as injection and you're likely to have big time temperature variation problems. keep the CIS unless you're building a normally aspirated track-only car.

Hey I dont mean to let the air out
of this as theres good responces though
what about fuel economy..the carb system
can be tuned for iether performance or
feul economy you just have to know
how to do it and thats for the webers
there very tunable ...so is the gas
mileage goin to stay as it is. If
its not a daily driver this is "OK"
I dont mind the cis and mine
is a daily driver. I dont want
to drive something that gets 17
mpg tops.What will happen. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

thks for the advice on the s/c.
i havent decided whether the car will be used for the street or track, hoping both. as for fuel economy, i wont be drinving the car very much cause insucence will be way to much $$$. i'm only 16 and i will be put down as a priciple driver, so its going to be alot.
as per the p&p and cam, ill will prolly be doing these upgrades, although i just remebered that when i sent my head to the machine shop they reground my cam. what exactly did they do? did they just grind out the rough spots on the lobes or what?
were there any audi engines that ran a 2.5" exahust manifold that will fit on the 924 head? cause if i can grab on cheap from a junkyard all the better _________________ '79 924 - in the works

Hey guys Im back!!!! Im sorry i havent posted in a while...Ive had many problems recetly....They are now in check im happy to say. I hope you guys can forgive me
Hey by the way I just wanted to throw something in. If you have an 80-82 924 take out the distributor and replace it for an old points distributor. I had an idle problem and have narrowed it down to that. I forgot that this was a electronic distributor...I even gave somebody some advice to replace it but since i hadnt worked on the 924 for a while forgot... DUH..
Anyways could somebody more knowledable explain to me how the electronic version of the distributor works in detail. It doesnt even have centrifugal advance. All chevy distributors do even though they are computer controlled. It seems that the timing gets retarded to hell when the car is at idle!!?!?!!??? DAMN COMPUTERS!!!
By the way does anyone have an pre 79 distributor around???

By the way JAM engeneering has the intake and all linkage parts including carb to intake gaskets for 180 dollars!! Thats were I bought mine.
And for anyone interested the Dellortos have a ported vacuum provision. Yet it still pulsates anyways since is connected to only one cylinder! _________________ 1982 Porsche 924 in mild restoration process.
