Here's what I've measured with a digital scale:
hatch glass (glass only, no frame): 46#
door (bare, no glass, no liner, no window regulator): 45#
power window lift: 6.5#
door window: 9#
hood: 43#
front fender (bare): 13#
bumper shock; 5#
That should put the benefit of fiberglass parts into perspective... _________________ Vaughan Scott

interesting that the hatch and hood are almost the same weight. Replace 'em both and keep the balance unchanged.
How much do the North American bumpers weigh? They're both metal right? _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

Yes, magnesium, but I haven't any off the car, so none to weigh. I'd guess maybe 20lbs apiece. _________________ Vaughan Scott

A guess is about 25 lbs for the front and the same for the rear.
Bumper shocks weigh 3.5 lbs each.
I sent a Euro bumper to Rick McLaren last week and I sent it with a Chinese import carton which weigh a ton and the total by UPS was 19 lbs. I am sending him the Euro mounts and they are 8 oz ea.
Consider getting a second sunroof and gut one of them. I did.
Remove all the sound deadening in the back and rear seat as well as the wheel well maybe removed 20 lbs.
Truthfully I think buying plastic fenders is a waste and would rather buy a plastic hatch or hood. The fenders are not that heavy.
Funny we remove weigh and it back in different ways,, heavier sway bars, roll bars, larger rims and bigger tires. Somehow along the way as we get older we gain weight which never comes off. |

| If you want you can go to I think it's www.gt-racing.com for an online catalog. They have weights for almost all of the things they sell. Which is usually fiberglass or carbonfiber. Yeah that's the place. |

The weights are wrong! They overestimate (to put it nicely) how much the parts weigh. How can you save 60-some pounds with a lexan hatch when the stock glass only weighs 45lbs!?!

| I wouldn't think they would be overestimating. If too many people figure this out the will soon lose customers. Thanks for pointing it out. |

| The bumpers are supposed to be metal??? Mine are fiberglass. Hmmmmm, makes me wonder because there has been some body work done in the front i thought but wasn't sure. I hope a PO didn't get in an accident and mess up the frame. |

Stock US bumpers are magnesium.
BTW, I just got my fiberglass race hood from 944Racing.com - cool! _________________ Vaughan Scott

I got different weights for the shocks. 3 1/2 lbs., rubber bumper parts about the same, the front bumper about 22-25 lbs.
Seats are about 30-33, mounted tires on stock rims about 30-33 lbs. |

Please keep us posted on that new hood. Did you get the hood with the hinge supports or the pinned hood?

I got the race hood, which has no structure underneath, only a little cross-bracing to hold shape and reinforced pads for the hood pins. Looks really nice! Haven't weighed it, but certainly no more than 10lbs. That's 30-40lbs savings no question!
Quality of the upper surface of the mold is very nice, good definition of the stock hood creases/bodylines.
I now have no idea when I will have the option to run it, may have to wait till I get the red turbo resuscitated. Then of course I'll have to get the scoop to go on top of it...
Still have to clean off that old hatch frame and glue in the lexan, make that operational. _________________ Vaughan Scott
