Since the 924 2.0 n/a is a non-interference engine has anyone attempted to advance or retard the cam timing by shifting the belt one tooth either way?
Any harm to a standard engine?

You can do either. If you advance it one tooth, you move the torque curve of the cam down lower in the RPM range. If you retard it one tooth, you move the torque curve up into the higher RPM range (I don't advise this since this engine doesn't rev very well anyway).
Do a self test and drive it as is. Then advance the cam one tooth and drive it again. Hopefully you will note a difference in around-town response.

Thanks for the info. My 1981 does not accelerate very well so I am looking for something to get a little more out of it. To advance it you go one tooth clockwise or CCW when facing the cam from the front. I can probably figure that out but thought I would ask. ---ted

You could do the timing thing...or...you could take a bolt on supercharger kit.

just a note, if you adjust your cam timing you will have to reset your ignition timing.

Advance is clockwise as you look at the cam from in front of the car. And note what AntoniMartini said about checking your ignition timing.

BTW, If I had a running street NA, I'd do what Ciprian (Morghen) says.
