Hey all, after replacing the fuel filter and vacuum lines my 924 NA has been starting and running sort of okay, but it idles erratically at first, and when I take it out around the block it accelerates really poorly (although it eventually idles fine). As per the previous recommendations I am going to do a fuel pressure test.

However — I recalled that I encountered oil on the spark plugs when I replaced the old ones, and realized that oil in the combustion chamber could also cause poor engine performance.

Does anyone know for the 924 what oily spark plugs usually indicate? What's the best way to diagnose/test it?

Just in case it helps diagnose something I have photos of the spark plugs. (Numbered sequentially 1 through 4 from front bumper to rear)

1 and 3 both have a slick oily gunk on the electrode where 2 and 4 do not. All of them had a bit of oil on them.

Those don't look oily enough to give me great concern; for sure we've run with plugs much dirtier and only the very slightest power loss.

So yeah, I'd focus on making sure your fuel system is fully up to snuff. Wouldn't hurt to check spray patterns too...

That's a huge relief! Thanks both.

In addition to great advice above, check for vacuum leaks and do a compression test.
