|
|
So I test fitted some 996 wheels which were 17x9 with 255/40 tires on them...
they almost fit! I removed the factory 21mm spacer, but had to used some 2mm washers to get the nuts to tighten.
Ill post some pics below, just to note, I think I could use a 5-8mm spacer and that would help the tire clear the nuts on the trailing arm.
I was planning on using 245/40 tires[/img] _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

The thread is 'biggest tire'....... not wheel

My 225 45 16 track tyres (measure closer to 245) look way tooooo big on my car..... looks like a Hotwheels car with that size tyre on a narrow body _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Currently running Yokohama A052. 225/50/16 front and 245/45/16 rear on BBS RS 7"/8" with a 49mm offset. 16mm spacer on the rear. Fronts rubbed a bit so had to pull the front fenders slightly. Did it by hand. Also running 2.??? camber _________________ '80 924 M471,Wideband O2, Full coilover susp,23/19 sways,Bilstiens,KLA Strut Brace,Roll Bar,Test Pipe,BBS RS, Willwood BBK

problem is on the inside you can see it hitting the bolts here (again this is a 255 tire)

Shave the bolt down to the nuts for a start. Then get some m14 washers and experiment.
You can have 6-7mm before you need longera studs or go to a bolted spacer but those need to be about 18mm to be strong enough, assuming the wheels have clearence on the inside between the bolts. |

I've been toying with the idea of using 7 & 8x16 Gullideckels from a 928 with 225/50 front and 245/50 rear tires on my '80 924 Turbo "potential" project so I'm interested to see what some of the ideas are going to be floated around here. _________________ '95 BMW 318i/5 ..."Pearl"

That’s the wheels I eventually want to run too but not sure on tire size..
Just whatever is correct for the wheel width and sidewall height for the car/speedo probably..
I’m putting down power and am not really feeling like I need huge tires..
Just 205s and full boost in 2nd just grinds the rear tires enough to leave faint black marks behind me (maximum traction).. Good pavement in the warm I mean..
Not so much in the cold though, will spin em up in 2 and grind em in 3rd..And if it’s a bit wet, forget about it, will blow em off in 4th if it’s actually wet but even damp 3rd is gone..
Kinda like it like that though.. It’s fun..
Don’t think I want too much tire.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

Also remember, apart from looking ridiculous if over rim'd and tyre'd, the added weight of big wheels and massively over sized tyres will impact the drive and handling of the car.
I think my car looks better on 8'' with 215 45 16 than it does 0n 8'' with 225 45 R tyres (measure the same width as many 245 road tyre). A 245 50 16 will look like balloons overfilling the wheel wells.
215 road tyre. 40mm rear and 15mm front spacers
225 R tyre. 30mm rear and no front spacer.
I will be putting 245 50 16 on 9'' rims on the rear of my CGT/GTS rep, but the luxury of extra width of the rear flares help compensate for the larger rim/tyre combo which looks right compared to the narrow body.
Also is anyone putting out the power or driving to the limit for the need of 245's on a 924/931??? Happy days if you are. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife
