G11, colour doesn't always say which product it is. G11 is mostly blue-green. _________________ 937 trackday car

Thanks for those. I was mostly talking about the Prestone products, either the Orange Dexcool or the standard green stuff.
I'll be picking up some G-05 from Autozone this afternoon. _________________ 1980 924 N/A |

Depends what the motor has had in it previously
MEG tends to be Blue or Green
OAT tends to be pink, orange or red
If you have previously used MEG do not use OAT unless the previous MEG is 100% flushed. You cannot risk the two mixing unless you want gloop blocking’s your cooling channels. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Hmmm... Based on this picture I took when the reservoir cracked, it looks like it had green in it. Not sure what it was, I never had to add any coolant and never did a flush.
G-05 is HOAT from what I read. I already filled the car up and bled it. Do I have some immediate flushing to do??

Ok, so I'm flushing it anyway.
I likely can't get the heater core bc the climate control in the car doesn't work. The fan switch is probably bad and two of the three sliders have jumped the tracks. She isn't a show car.
So what I did now is pull the skid plate and pull out the rad drain plug. I'm feeding tap water through it via the reservoir. When that comes out clean, I'll fill it with tap, run the car, bleed, drain, refill, run, bleed, drain... rinse and repeat until the water comes out clear. Then I'll run 4 or so gallons of distilled through it, then refill with G05 and bleed.
This *should* preclude the need to pull the block drains. The car is 40 years old, the fewer bolts I risk breaking or stripping the better.
Better safe than sorry and, to be honest, it's not difficult or time-consuming to do it right. The only thing that worries me is not emptying the heater core. _________________ 1980 924 N/A |
