My two cents…
It looks like the binding has already been replaced. The black ‘cloth’ stripe indicates it is already been apart in the past and is ‘rebonded’ at a shop like Staples and the likes. It looks like an aftermarket binding very common in the nineties.
OR
Looking at the other GTR Factory Manual at ebay mentioned on page one it shows the same cloth binding (underneath silver tape): Back in the days this "gluing-gathering" was a common easy way of producing low quantities of publications.
Probably this was produced in small amounts by Porsches indoors Graphic Reproduction corner …some where hidden behind a closet in the basement between a Pantzer prototype and Swimwagen spares
Back to the now. A copy or print center that have a professional cutting machine (able to cut stacks of paper at a time up to the millimeter/points) will be able to cut a minimal amount off the rear of this booklet so the pages can easily be reproduced through a printer/scanner feeder. All simple basics, no high end production needed.
But, since you are going through the proces of rebinding, you might want to have it professionally bound with linen and have it ‘rebuild’ after reproduction/digital processing for future use, on your bookshelf.
Kind regards,
Harm. _________________ Porsche 924 NA 1982 LY7A/A3A3 _ Greater driving pleasure never harmed anyone. |

Does the price come down if we get more than the 10 required people? I am interested, but maybe not $50 dollars interested |

Harm, I can say almost with 100% certainty that the book binding is original. The one on Ebay has had the exact same issue mine has but they have simply put a strip of duct tape on it. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

So I got a call from the binder and he says he can do it, no problem. Excellent. Now I can take it to a pro digital copy shop and have it scanned into...PDF ? JPEG ?
This is where I will need a bit of advice from the more technologically inclined. What format should it be and how will I deliver it to people ?
If anyone has experience please let me know. I think the best way is to put the file onto USB sticks and just mail them. I guess that leads to...how large of sticks will I need to get ?
My poor little brain.

Add me to the list.
My recommendation is PDF scanned @600DPI grayscale. If the is an option to do text only pages in black and white rather than grayscale, it will reduce size, and respond better to Acrobat's OCR, which will allow indexing and searching (e.g. as our PET PDFs function). Ideally, not secured to allow copying of text. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Thanks Dan. You are on the list, I think Power Tryp just missed you. That info is very helpful as well since I am pretty sure you know about these computery stuff. I will copy the text and ask them to follow it. PET is exactly how I would like it to come out.

So. Everything is in place. Everyone that has spoken for a copy please PP the money to :
leaky15@hotmail.com
I will take the book to the copy place this weekend and get this started. When they have finished the job I will be able to know if I can send it with a large file transfer service or if I will have to buy USB sticks / DVDs.
Again, any suggestion for this will be appreciated.

So does that mean no to a lower cost with more people? The original thought was 10 people at $50 each for a total of $500. Does it go down with 15 people?
Also, I think you should be able to use dropbox or something for excessively large files instead of making CDs. Or google drive or something similar.
I'd be in for $50 each though, I'm just thinking the initial cost would be the same no matter if 10 people or 100. |

I have no idea of the final cost. Ten people was the minimum and to be honest I'm pretty sure I hit it on the head and all hard costs will be covered. That being said however I am going to get it going now with my own money and will trust that those who have spoken up will PP the funds when they have a chance. If I make a few bucks to cover my time and gas driving around and the fact that my fairly rare book will no longer be in its 'from the factory' original condition I don't see a problem with that.
