|
|
I was at the 7 year anniversary of a local transaxle specialist today. There were quite a number of cars, but one car in particular caught my attention. It is a home built Carrera GTR.
It is a 924S from 1986 with 160hp. I don't like the styling one bit, but the build quality is quite impressive.
Enjoy
And a gratuitous shot of my and my friends 931's

That car looks bad, kitsch runner boy style, way too busy design.
And the only GTR thing is the nose piece and front wings maybe.
Your 931 and the other black/green/blue? one look fantastic! _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

+1
What's with the spoiler??
The only thing I like about this car is the engine bay, very clean and tidy. _________________ 1976 924 N/A ROW SOLD

The spoiler is a strosek unit

That about sums it up
The rears was also extra wide, at least twice as much flare as a 944. I think it was running 335 tyres at the back and 255 at the front. With no power steering
I do think that if he did not paint all the trim red and left the interior black, it might have been better looking. And that Strosek hatch has never been a favourite of mine.

Thanks Morghen, the black one is mine. We have spent a lot of time getting these cars running properly and back to their factory specs. |

yea, that car would porbably look ok with some genuine racing wheels, white paint job and maybe the racing livery that was put on the cars back in the day...oh..and no strosek hatch. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

There is absolutely nothing on that car that even hints of GTR. Nada, zilch, zip. In fact it’s an insult to even use Carrera GT/S/R and pics of that car in the same post. Sorry, it’s harsh but fair. Whether it’s a good or bad car is another subject. Just defending the Porsche Carrera GTR heritage.
The pic of the two lovely turbos have more in common to a Carrera GT/S/R. They are more worthy of a thread of there own _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

I should have put the GTR in parenthesis I guess But he was pretty serious about calling it a GTR though he also has an abundance of stickers stating it is a GTR. And who am I to question him?
Just kidding Obviously this car is nothing like a Carrera GT(R)'s, and ugly as hell. I was very impressed by the build quiality though and he spared no detail.
On the other hand, I was equally disappointed when he opened the hood ro reveal an S lump. I was so hoping that there was a proper GTR spec motor under the hood. Needless to say the hood scoop is only for show. |

I like it, it just looks like it's maybe sitting a bit too high due to the huge wheel choice..
Maybe an inch or 2 smaller wheels and lower..
The retro seats look like the odd piece out.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

I respect the time and effort that went into this car. But if it were mine I'd never be able to pull a wrench on it and then touch that steering wheel afterwards! _________________ '84 944 - kid blew motor
