|
|
Trying to take off my head.
I have all the bolts taken off the intake but two of the screws are stuck in, nuts off. I was able to get the other two off with the nut and screw.
She wont budge at all. Any tips?
The exhaust just seems tricky.
I can't seem to find a way to take off the bolts behind the exhaust manifold. I thought off trying to go a little further down to the pipe itself and unbolt that from the manifold, but those were extremely tight and none would budge. _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Weissach Commemorative Edition |

Buddy, it ALL has to come off. Even if you manage to get the hidden nuts in the back you will never get them back on and tight unless you remove all of the existing crap in your way. There are no simple routes when it come to these cars.

If you disconnect everything from the intake you can pull the head with the intake attached also but the intake should come off the head fairly easily in the car..
Make sure you get the bracket under the intake where the dipstick is..
Oh hang on that's an NA.. Don't know about your exhaust manifold if it would come out with the head or not... _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

It would come off with the dipstick but that's not my goal.. just removing the head and these 37 year old bolts like to fight me. _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Weissach Commemorative Edition |

Noop, incorrect. The dipstick tube DOES NOT come out of the oil pan. You need to disconnect the bracket.

Not all cars have the tube. Some cars just have a "shorty" dipstick that goes directly into the oil pan. If it has a tube, the tube will come out, but is very easy to damage in the process. So if you have a tube, do as Keno suggests and just remove the bracket that secures it to the intake support bracket. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I have never been able to remove a dipstick tube. Ever. They just bend and deform. Also, if you do remove it be sure to mark it well BEFORE taking it out or else your oil level will be wonky when you put it back in as the tube does not 'seat' on a counter bore inside....

Great information. Thank you
But I got the Head out just fine.. Except for two wires on the back of the head.. Whoops
Cylinder 4 was the problem.
I just took the head in to be resurfaced and megnafluxed
The previous owner had the head resurfaced but very coarsly.. No wonder it leaked.
The cam and the things above the valves are a little damaged.. As well as one cracked and broken. Oofta _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Weissach Commemorative Edition |

If the cam and lifters are bad they will need to be changed. Also when you removed them you labelled each to know where it goes back I hope ?
(Also, the Magnaflux inspection method is for ferrous metals, because the head is al-you-minium you will need to have it penetrant inspected. )
