|

The '79 has been running like a champ, even when it's colder outside. However, every time we have a freezing morning, the damn thing will not start.
It cranks, and it cranks quickly as it should, so it isn't a weak starter issue. I bought a new battery. The coil is about a year old or so... and is original Bosch NOS coil for the '79, factory.
New cap, rotor, plugs, wires. New fuel filter. Injector cleaner recently ran through.
Car cranks and cranks and cranks but acts like it isn't firing as all. Doesn't cough, doesn't spit. Nothing. Just endlessly cranks.
I am completely baffled as to what it may be. It's never done this before and is confusing the living hell out of me.
I managed to get it one morning with some starter fluid, but it also wasn't totally freezing outside. Soon as the ice comes, so does my no start. I'm starting to get annoyed to hell when it does this, because it didn't used to do this and just started doing this and I have no idea what is causing it. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

Maybe a lazy/tired fuel pump that just doesn't work as hard as it needs to in freezing weather. _________________ MOD

| Did you check the cold start injector and auxiliary air valve? |

I would think that if it was the fuel pump, the car would at least sputter on starting fluid, and it doesn't even do that. I suppose I can't leave anything out and can try to test the pressure coming from the pump cold and warm.

I actually haven't tested the cold start injector. Good idea. Though why would it do that in the cold only? Only freezing temps? It starts OK on other cold-ish mornings, just not below freezing. Also haven't tested aux air valve, but I wouldn't think that'd cause a complete no start even with using starting fluid. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

Sure, but where? And how would that effect it only on freezing mornings? I mean, I drive the thing in the rain all the time and it's never had a single issue. I'm open to all ideas though. I'm going to start with AAV, coil test, and cold start injector tonight when I get home. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

| On the cold days you are going to need some extra fuel to start it up. If the cold start injector is not functioning you may have a difficult time kicking it over when it is stone cold. The auxiliary air valve could be stuck closed. This can also make it very difficult to start when cold. Also. Check all your vacuum lines. |

Check the plugs if they are wet after a cranking but no start session.
If they are not wet then you aren't getting fuel.
If they are wet check if if you have spark.
If you have spark check that you have a good spark not a flimsy one.
If you have fuel and good spark check the compression. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits
