First thing I would do is to go out and buy some sentence punctuation.

Answers will start coming after that.

If it has a points style system, ensure the point open when at TDC and check gap.
A multimeter will help to determine if the coil is getting power.
With the points open it should be 12 v

I would strongly recommend getting a Haynes and an assortment of other manuals if you plan to keep the car! It will also help you sort out the ignition issues as they can be extremely daunting unless you have and can read the schematic.

Can you post a few detailed pictures of the damage near the coil and ICU? That may help members here on the board assist you in undoing whatever cutting has occurred to avoid damaging the ignition system or you in the process of fixing it!

Upload them to some place like Photobucket then copy the URL and use the IMG button. Or email them to me and I will post them.

Could you pop the distributor cap and post a picture, wondering if it has points and a condenser....

To my knowledge no US 924 came with points. ROW did for a few years I believe.

The 81 is a hall sensor car. You should be able to fix things fairly easily, it looks like there is enough wire left at the cut spots to solder or get them into connectors.

One thing I do see is an odd ignition switch...possibly why the PO couldn't get her started. I once bought a replacement ignition switch like the one I saw in one of your pics with the riveted heat sync on the back and it did not work for the car, I got nothing. Put the old Bosch unit back on that screws into the larger heat sync you will see in one of the pics below and it started right up. let me know if you would like the part number off of it.

Here are the pics I said I would get for you:

This is the general layout of the ignition switch area on the 81

Here are the connectors. Big one is for the ignition switch - the two that are connected are for the idle stabilizer (the box in the next pic). The car can run without the box, but the connectors must be connected, the car will not run if there is no connection between those three wires.

Idle stabilizer (kinda hard to find them)

These three wires go to the hall sensor. You will have to take a look at the wiring schematic to see which color goes where on the actual hall connector. But all three do run down to the ignition switch - see next pic

Wiring order for the ign switch connector:

Here are how the connectors look on the coil. The two green wires connect to a two prong male plug on the negative side of the coil. And the black wire as well as the black and blue wire are crimped together into one connector on the positive side of the coil.

Let me know if there are any other pics you need. Hope these help get things started for you.

Cheers,

Ian
