Is the bolt on the crank pulley by chance a left hand thread?

Nope. They are usually on very f'n tight though so I can see why you might be wondering.

Thanks, got two pistons out so I will use a block of wood to lock the crank and go after it.

Whenever I needed help with that, I'd drive to a local farmer, and borrow his 3/4 inch air wrench. Spun those babies off like nothing. Better than wedging something in the engine if you can find one of these to rent or borrow.

If desperate you can put a very long spanner on the nut and wedged against the chassis, disconnect coil to prevent starting and hit the starter briefly.
be aware- spanners are heavy and can fly.

It eventually came off with my 1/2" DeWalt electric impact wrench.
