UPDATE

We continue with the project

Installing the front suspension back together.

A couple of cooling hoses behind the engine and the radiator.

Installing the exhaust system.

The rubber mountings are kinda in bad shape.

New.

Dont laugh at the rear exhaust pipe! It's just temporary!

Now we adjust the camshaft timing.

We measure so that the intake and exhaust lobes are exactly equal in opposite directions.

Then we make a small mark so we can get back to the same position.

We have decked the block and a different camshaft so we can't get the timing 100% correct so we adjust the timing to be a little "earlier" so that we gain some power.

Continuing with the fuel system. We have to test it's function first.

Mounting the k jet ironic unit.

New fuel filter.

To test the fuel system we first need to jump the fuelpump so that it pumps fuel when we turn on the power.

One bottle under every injector.

Turning on the power and lifting up this thing on the k jetronic.

We want the fuel to be closely the same on each cylinder and that the injector doesn't spray in weird pattern.

One of the injectors turned out to spray in a strange pattern so we ordered 4 new ones!

Green tartan interior, you don't see that on a Civic.

What are you brewing?
I like the fact that you renew things on your 924 but i would have refreshed the struts at the same time and remove the rust and coat for protection the wheel wells before installing the new stuff on the car.

Blue crystals

Well we take everything in steps. The dampers is probably bad after all these years and when we replace them we will freshen everything up!

UPDATE

We bought a used MSD unit that we are going to install now!

First we install a MSD coil

We cut the green and purple wire.

Then we cut the green wire going to the distributor.

The green wire has a inner and outer wire.

The green wire from MSD goes to the inner wire and the purple one goes to the outer wire.

Orange from MSD to + and black to -.

The MSD "on/off" wire go to the original green/white wire from the stock unit.

We test the MSD before final install.

We put in a spark plug and rotate the distributor.

We have spark! So it works perfectly.

Now we mount it permanently.

Then its installed!

We also installed a oil temp gauge! We put the sender in the upper oil plug.

Removing the useless clock.

Done

UPDATE

Soon we will be able to start our engine for the first time! But we will not be using the mechanical injection. We are going to install a weber 45 kit instead

But in the mean time something else has happened! We got a free Porsche 924!! When we first heard that we could get it for free we thought that it would be a old rusty wagon.

This is how it looked.

We got a little chocked! The chassis is in good condition with barely any rust. And its a 1977 model! It looks good on the underside too!

The engine is complete and works according to the last owner.

But why we got it for free? Take a look inside...

The instruments has burned down and the interior is covered in ashes. Really sad because the chassis is in such a good condition. We thought about using this as a spare parts car, taking the engine and then sending it to the scrap yard...

But we decided to remove everything to see how bad it really is. If we could get this to work we can fix it and sell it to finance our main project

Lots of aftermarket stereo parts that we believe to be the culprit!

We have an old ignition switch from the white 924 that we scrapped. We attach that one and fix all the burnt cables. We don't know where anything should go but for now we just take the cables that we need to start the engine!

Before start we do a regular service. Oil, filters and coolant. Fitting a thermostat too!

After some runs with the starter it runs!! Video from the first start below:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/UuzVg0JH1wU

At this point we have hope about the car and it looks that we can save this car and sell it.

2 questions. There are a ton of cables going into the ignition switch and they are not marked so we don't know where they should go!

And the fuel pump relay gets really hot and smoke comes out of it. We have another relay but it doesn't have a fuse on it like the one in the car... Hmm?
