I'm just wondering why anyone that doesn't have a severed leg would want an automatic Porsche.

someone with knee problems perhaps? however person that had automatic I was interested in sold it day I had scheduled to see it. I drove sticks almost 30 years. many years with stiff clutch pedals on American cars & trucks & 2 years ago I bought my first automatic vehicle & now I am not limping as bad.

& for original poster, dont like driving sticks in city? perhaps change driving habbits? put in neutral instead of holding clutch down. & yes its not as safe to be able to pull out of way in case of emergency, old vehicles I had in my youth had to be driven this way whether you liked to or not. for example old MGBs had a carbon release bearing, no bearing, nothing turned, just graphite wearing surface, so if held clutch down at lights it caused excessive wear, to avoid the wear you practiced this, another is Vintage Yamaha 2 stroke with injector motorcycles, when held in clutch it cut off oiling, so was only running on gas instead of oil & gas. not a bright piece of engineering,

Are you coming to the Thursday night group anytime soon? If not, I'll have to find a time to for sure. Not that I don't believe you..

This, plain and simple. Been driving sticks most of my life. Kinda tired of it. This car would have been a commuter, so I didn't really care either way.

I bought my 1981 924 2 litre 3 speed auto 6 years ago and love it. I'm 6'2".
Try getting in with the seat pushed back, and pull it forward until your legs are in front of the steering wheel. I know it does seem to make sense, but works well for me. I love the auto. I pulled all of the sound deadening out do I can hear it clunk and slush changing up and down, crazy stuff.

It a great gearbox. I've done 25k kms and it just seems to get smoother with age.

Good luck

Lefty

Just reading back and apparently, I've caused a little confusion here. The black 924S is NOT the car I drove (like Rasta said, it's waaaay over priced), but the 1982 924 Auto in the original post...which I forgot to post a link. So...here is that one...

http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/cto/5458897424.html

I'd post photos, but evidently I don't know how on this forum.

I have little impression of the autobox, mostly because our test drive was very short. But from what I remember, it was...fine. Not great, but pretty much what I expected. I could have lived with it.

I did love those seats, tho.

That's a gorgeous color on a 924. I guess the price isn't bad for such a low mileage car, but still a bit more than I want to spend on a 924 that isn't an S. Still...I saved some pics in case I get a 924 in a color I don't like.

Oh man! Wonder what that will go for. Of course, shipping from NJ will kill any deal.

Did you really post that at 2:44 AM?
