My little Lady has sit for 3 yrs while I've recouped from medical issues. I posted about this earlier but cannot find the posts so am re-posting. I've changed the spark plugs,(after spraying some Marvel Mystery Oil into the cylinders) new plug/coil wires, added Stabil to gas tank along with 5 gal of new super gas. Am wanting to change the cooling fan relay as I was having an overheating problem (the fan kicked in but temp was too high). I am having trouble getting the old relay out of the socket, whats the secret?? In my owner's manual it's shown as I (roman numeral) I also noticed quite a difference in the height of the old compared to the new. New relay is a Wherle #20-240-073. Any help this old guy would appreciate much.
Thanks

Need a bump on this. Anyone able to tell me how to remove this Fan Cooling Relay? Having trouble with my big, klutzy fingers gripping it.
Thanks…..Jim _________________ 87' 924S, Red |

Just wiggle it side to side while pulling up. Pry it up with a small pry tool or z shaped screwdriver if you need additional force. |

Grenadier….the relay under the dash next to the fuse panels. Roman numeral I, square shaped.
Jason C…..thanks for the thought on removing, will try with a small pry tool.
am wondering if it might be the relay on lower part of radiator? when I start it up the temp rises but it gets too hot before radiator cooling fans kick in and I need to shut it down which ain't good with it hot!!
Thanks guys _________________ 87' 924S, Red |

Try smacking the top of the relay when the engine starts to get hot to see if the relay is just sticking. _________________ Stefan

The part on the radiator that controls the fans on/off is the fan temp switch, its not a relay. You can test it by heating it in hot water while checking temp & for continuity. Compare your findings to the temp range on the switch. They do offer different temp ranges to make the fans come on earlier. |
