maybe you know more than i do...but again i know of other 931s that produce considerably more power than the factory ones and they are reliable...one of them is surely yours

I'll stick to my car then, I think its fast enough, life is not a race on who has more horsepower, fact is you can improve the 931 dramatically and if you want, you can compare it to the 951 in some ways..but thats not the point...the point is to enjoy the car...which you can do even in stock form...i love my original 170hp 931 S1 and i'm not going to modify it.

The 924 turbo is one car and the 944 turbo is another...the 924 is a nimble quick car and the 944 is a more refined faster and a bit heavier car.

I like both, and if you like them both and can...why not go for it and enjoy what Porsche designed.

I remember that car. . .are you saying it ran long enough to get out of third gear?

GOL! (guffaw out loud)

To the OP, I say go for it. 944s are getting as cheap as 924s and 931s to acquire, and they're loads of fun too.

Back off topic, and on the 931 vs 951 discussion, it seems to me that a lot of people get fixated on raw numbers. There are really two numbers that matter the most, in my opinion, when it comes to spirited road driving: torque and weight:power ratio. Anything you can do to get to the magical 10:1 number while increasing torque will make the 931 hold its own with some of the greatest road cars made, including the Boxster and Cayman.

As morghen suggests, both of these goals can be met without huge investments. You can surely build a 400BHP+ beast of a 951 with easily obtainable bolt-on mods. But isn't it more interesting to build a sleeper 931?

944's certainly are nice cars, they are way more sophisticated enginewise. I've have had 143hp US version, 190hp 16 valve S and 163hp euro version. The basic euro 2.5 163hp was the best and felt as fast as the S. But there is something boring about 944 N/A... 931 feels much more raw and acceleration certainly is better. I don't know why people often consider the 931 as a cheaper car when compared to 944 N/A. After all it was more expensive than 944 in 1982 when both models were for sale side by side in Europe.

Can you do both? Put together the 944 and sell it off to fund the 931? The 931 doesn't look too bad at all. Plus it says "turbo" on the back which makes it cooler than a 944

Why would you do that? I thought you had a great initial response.

There are so many out of the box cars that will perform better than the 924 out there. The 924 to me has a nostalgic feel though. I've driven the new Mustang GT350 and it is so much better than an old Mustang, in literally every way. But there is something classy about having a '67 Shelby. Sure, you give up the a/c and radio and all the other amenities, but there is something about having a classic car that is cool. I think that is what makes the 924 a better car than the 944.

I like the looks of the 931 much more than the boxier 944, this would only be in addition to the 931, not to replace it by any means.

I'm going to go ahead and get the two 944s towed and I'll see where it goes from there. The 931 will always be the better car in my opinion, despite the audi 2L.

I decided I'm gonna bite the bullet and get the 944s, Going to try to get them towed this weekend.

I decided that I'm going to take the '84 he has and an '85.5 thats complete and might run, but has a slushbox which will have to go.

I decided not to take the '87 thats missing the trans. On closer inspection it had a bit of body damage to the rear quarters and such that I didn't want to deal with.

The '85 only needs a new passenger fender, well and new a interior, but I can't complain about a free Porsche..

This thread is killing me. Decide on which one you like and stick with it. The problem with these cars are there are some of us that love them no matter what the cost and some that buy them because they are pocket change, have the Porsche insignia, but have no concept on what it costs to maintain them. My only hope is that some 931's will survive.[/quote]
