Hi guys,

The 205/50 R15 tires that I'm currently running look pretty darn close to the spring but I really want to run 225/45 R15 Toyo or Hoosier tires in PCA 944 Cup. Running phone dial rims.

What mods do I need to do? Will a wheel spacer suffice or do I need a smaller coil spring?

Many thanks.

Switch to coil overs from Paragon Products.

I have run 225/50ish/16 front and 245/45/16 rear on late turbo phone dials. All you need is the factory rear (21mm?) spacer. Front doesnt rub on my weltmeister springs.

the phone dials are 7" front 8" rear with a 52mm offset

keep in mind different brands will have different widths even though they are all advertised as 225's.

the old yokohama avs 245's were wider than the bridgestone re-11 245's

Brockoli is right.
225 will fit but you need to check the tire width before buying them. 225 is just indicative, the real width will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer by a lot! There are 225's that are narrower than 205's and there are 225's that are wider than 245.
Most likely you will need to play with camber to get the best clearance of the tire vs fender and spring. 225/45 is good choice because of its less overall diameter -> less chance of rubbing.

For the reference, I just bought brand new tires for my white 924 2.5 16v and the front 215/40 were as wide as previous Michelin 225/40 18, rears (255/35 R18) from the same manufacturer were same width as previous 245/35 R18 Pirellis. Go figure...

Then use the coil overs for Porsche cup and cheap shit for LeMons or take the penalty hit and understand that LeMons is about having fun on track.

Besides cheap eBay coil over sleeves are stupidly cheap, it's the shocks that are expensive and the tech inspectors should bloody well know that.

I was able to just fit RA-1's for 944 Spec on my 924S stock setup with 10mm spacers. Very little clearance to the spring, but enough.

I have since moved over to coilovers, and will be taking the value hit in Chumpcar. I think it will cost me 4 laps for those and the other cheaty bits on the car (oil cooler, torsion bars, steam vent kit, etc.).

Oil cooler and coil overs with Koni's could be argued that they are factory options (they were offered on some 944's) Same with the torsion bars if they are factory pieces.

Most aren't cheating, their chassis are just better developed and perform quite well out of the box with mixing and matching factory parts. So fight fire with fire and go hunt down M030, Turbo and other factory parts.

I know, we just categorically hate them~! Amazing to see how an E30 can get a weight reduction, there's hardly anything left of anything BMW.

Ok you guys win, will purchase the coilover kit from Paragon Parts tomorrow.

My next question, what spring rate?

Tires will be 225/45R15 BFG Rivals for lemons and Toyo R888's for track days/DE. Sway bars are 25.8mm front and 19mm adjustable with the 25mm torsion bars, more or less MO30/968 stuff.

Is 250lb going to be enough? Need the car to be easy to drive for my in laws as well as myself and bro-in-law to push at nine tenths.

Cheers, J
