I think I may have upset it!
I swapped the main instrument surround over, so had to unplug the rev counter etc before plugging back in. I have also tucked away a nest of wiring on the passenger side.
The PO removed an alarm/immobiliser, however I can still see remnants of it. I can also see a black box by the ECU on the driver side.
With the key in the first position, the fuel pump runs. But when I turn to crank it, the pump cuts out. I've got spark. I jumped the DME relay but the pump didn't run. I've changed the ignition switch.
Obviously, the pump should run when cranking not the other way around, what could cause this? The car would start first turn of the key before I disturbed something!!
Thanks in advance for any help! _________________ 1982 924 Turbo with Carrera GT kit, TMIC & DITC |

That don't sound right. I'd start with a new ignition switch...they're an old, fragile design, and the materials ain't so great either. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Swapped the ignition switch with a worn but working spare, no difference. Off to buy a multimeter today. _________________ 1982 924 Turbo with Carrera GT kit, TMIC & DITC |

I have bought a multi meter and tested the DME relay socket & fuel pump fuse. I get 12v at the fuse.
With the relay, I get 12v constantly at pin 30. Pin 86 (ign) I get 0v with the key out, 12v with it in accessory position and 9v cranking.
I still can't jump the relay to get the pump to run. _________________ 1982 924 Turbo with Carrera GT kit, TMIC & DITC |

Did you test for voltage at the pump? It should run with a jumper across 30, 87a and 87b. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Pump runs with the key in accessory position for some reason.
I can feel fuel flow to the injectors. _________________ 1982 924 Turbo with Carrera GT kit, TMIC & DITC |

Have you tried a spare DME relay? I feel you pain, I swapped out a speedometer, and now my gauge lights don't work. Grrrrr. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Had an auto electrician out, traced the wiring and then narrowed it down to a faulty DME computer anyway!
The current one is 944.618.121.05 which is hard to find. Can I use 944.618.121.04 which is plentiful? Bearing in mind it's a 1988 ROW 924S, so high compression _________________ 1982 924 Turbo with Carrera GT kit, TMIC & DITC |

It will work, but the tune is not optimal for your engine. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

I bought a 1986 944 DME since it was cheaper/available and I figured it must be close to a 88 924S. Charged the battery and the car started right up!
However, I still have a few problems:
The ECU box was warm to the touch after 15 minutes, should it be? Looks like my old one melted a few bits of solder.
The battery voltage is low and the alternator belt is working hard.
Any ideas? _________________ 1982 924 Turbo with Carrera GT kit, TMIC & DITC |

You can convert it to use your chip if you're handy with a soldering iron.

Sometimes the connectors in the engine bay succumb to heat and the wires underneath the boots start shorting out.
Also, if it appears that your DME has been taken apart before, make sure that the aluminum spacers are still in place as they act as heat sinks.

Might be time to change the voltage regulator.
I hope that helps! _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior
