I'm thinking about starting a tool club. Such items that would loaned out are:
Fuel Pressure tester
Dwell meter
Volt meter
Timing light
Exhaust gas tester
Oxygen tester
Any comments appreciated.

hey Michael,
i agree, but most of the tools you mention really should be a part of anyones collection. the CIS presure tester, being a more or less one use tool, is the exception i think. once you check the pressures and find the fault you shouldn't need to use it again unless another fault arises. i thought about passing around this gauge.
i might be picking one up pretty soon and i thought about just having someone send me money for shipping and $10 less than what i bought it for. that person can then do the same until someone finally ends up with it for free. so 6-7 people get to use it for the cost of shipping plus $10. this way you don't have to send it back to a "toolmaster" (there's a great title!) and you can keep it until you can recheck pressures after replacing the new part.

I think it'd be a good thing to have available, but there should be some sort of accountability. I've never known anyone in my circle of friends over the years who owned his/her own fuel pressure, exhaust gas or oxygen tester. From some of the posts I've read here folks in those states with strict yearly licensing requirements, the last two on the list could really come in handy when time comes to pass the test. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

A perfectly satisfactory voltmeter can be had for $20 or under. Course you can spend lots more for an Automotove oriented multitest unit. So would suggest the voltmeter may not cost enought to warrant sharing.
I bought the CIS fuel pressure test unit from the online as discussed elsewhere (somewhere!) for about $59. It appears to be a solid unit. And its one of those tools that once you have it you use it. Have already checked out a couple of 944s and added the unit to our track tool box. |
