Hoping someone might recognize these fenders on my '87 924s. They don't appear to fit the year and model. The lower portion behind the wheel is flared. This is the case for both sides.
Thanks in advance.

Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it. |

Here are some other views. The flare seems rather subtle but it was the first thing noticed by a local Porsche collector and P-Car concours judge.

Both sides are equal in the amount of 'flare'. _________________ World's worst welder. |

Someone heated them up and used a fender roller or a baseball bat to gain a little room for bigger tires.
They don't appear to match the rest of the paint on the car, indicating a possible front end replacement and poor respray?
Either way, it isn't factory and was performed by someone for some specific reason. _________________ Stefan

I shall have to settle for something less exotic then I had hoped for.
I could not find anything in my many P books that suggested a likely source so, I shall chalk it up to damage or attempt at customization.

Can you post a pic from the bottom. It looks like the bottom is bent like someone tried to jack it up there as rasta said. The paint repair might be from either cracks from the bend or rock chips.
It doesn't look like they tried to make room because the edges aren't rolled. I would think maybe they broke a ball joint but that doesn't seem likely since its on both sides.
You can straighten it out fairly easy if you want. You can also do a light wetsand & buff to remove the excess paint off the fenders. |

I dunno, in that first closeup I see something a little different than rolled fenders.
So usually rolled fenders result in that inside lip being crushed up against the backside of the fender instead of it staying 90 degrees out, like you can see in the pic. It looks to me like there might be about a 1" flare on the actual fender below the trim line.
Better pictures would help -- especially with more contrasting light and a shot from the back rather than straight on or from the front... |

| I don't see a rolled lip. Better pics will tell but to me it looks like the bottom of the fender (where the plastic rocker covers of on cars that have them) is bent up which pushes the front of the fender outward. Its difficult to tell because the bottom of the fender is black ad there is a shadow. |

... yes the black part of the rocker looks like it has been crunched.
I'm looking around the trailing edge of the wheel well starting at the trim line (door handle height) down to the black rocker. Looks like a 1" flair around the circumference of the wheel well.
Need better pics..,. |

Indeed, the bottom on the driver's side is bent from a jack misalignment in all likelihood. Still, both sides (flare-wise) are even-steven.
The incorrect colour match is really the only thing I could live without. Given the uniformity of the flare I can live with it; however, I do have some extra wings and may get them on this summer.
I guess I'll just have to live with out the fenders being from a rare GTR or the like.
Thanks everyone. _________________ World's worst welder. |
