Hello!

I would like some help with describing where the different colored cables to the ignition switch go to. The last owner of the car lost the key to the car and had to replace the ignition lock, but the cables where only twisted around the terminals so I have to redo it correctly. I don't have the original ignition switch which makes the whole thing a lot more difficult. My plan is to install a switch panel right after the ignition lock/switch (which will always be turned to the "On position").

The plan is: FIA-approved main breaker switch -> ignition lock/switch, (exept for the starter) (for safety reasons) -> switch panel (with ignition switch, start button and three accesory switches)-

Back to the reason of the thread. I can't figure out where the different cables go to and in what key position the cables are fed power to.

The colors are:
Large red = Battery I assume
Black (2 cables to one cable shoe) = ??? (Something buzzed when I briefly touched it to the red cables, is it the fuel pump maybe?)
Red/black = Starter
Grey = ??
Small red = Seat belt warning system relay (according to Pelican schematic) ??

I've tried reading the Pelican electrical schematic with no luck. The page is cut of right at the ignition lock...

Any help is much appriciated, thanks in advance!

Check Pelican Parts. They have many (but not all) wiring diagrams online.

As stated in the original post, I have checked the electrical schematic from Pelican Parts, but the images are cut of right at the ignition switch which is why I can't read where the grey and the black wires go.

The ignition switch on the schematic looks like this: http://puu.sh/cIvCY/ed0003c922.jpg

Well yeah sort of, and a little help figuring out where the different cables go to (I don't really understand the continuation of the cables and what the different tracks represent)..

4.0 red = Battery
4.0 red/black (only powered at key position 3) = Starter
0,5 red/black (fed power to at??) = ??
2,5 black/yellow (only powered at key position 2) = ??
1,0 grey (only powered at ??) = ??
1,5 black (fed power to at key pos 2 and 3) = Ignition?

If someone could quote this list and substitute the question marks with the correct answer I would be more than greatful!

http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=24683

basically without even looking at the current track roman numerals you can trace the lines across to the matching pages, they are all aligned and pages sequential,
just have a look at the main circuit tracks such as 30 "constant power" or 15 "ignition on at start" that individual circuits are tied into...

the colour codes are also pretty easy to follow, red 30 and 50, 15 is black and x is black/yellow in most circuits around the ign switch...

I appreciate you guys trying to help, but the original problem still remains. The schematic from pelican is cut off right at the grey cable, and the schematic rhialto sent me is not the same as the one from Pelican (Compare the continuation of the black/yellow), which makes it pretty difficult to trace the grey cable.

I haven't had any problems so far reading the electrical schematic except for now, and all I am looking for is a straight answer as to where to different cables go to and when they are powered.

Red 4.0 (Always 12v+) = From battery
Red/black 4.0 (12v+ at start) = To starter
Black 0,5 2x (12v+ at start and ignition) = Ignition?
Grey 0,5 (12v+ at ?) = ?
Black/yellow 2,5 (12v+ at ignition) = ?
Red/black 0,5 (Always 12v+ ?) = ?

Black 0,5 2x (12v+ at start and ignition) = 15
Black/yellow 2,5 (12v+ at ignition) = X circuit
Red/black 0,5 (Always 12v+ ?) = SU / Radio

as far as I can tell grey goes to P at the ignition switch and powers the parking light contact circuit as per haynes manual

Granted I have an '81, but the grey from the ignition runs to the light switch and provides power to the parking lights on "run."

I have the entire harness laying on the floor at the moment...so a trace was done by hand.

Hope that helps.
